Google has decided to open up an AI research center in Beijing ever though their search engine is banned in China. Evidently they feel the need to join in with China since it has started to invest heavily in AI. I guess this is one of those times where if you can't beat them, join them.
Along with Dr. Jia Li, Head of Research and Development at Google Cloud AI, I’ll be leading and coordinating the research. Besides publishing its own work, the Google AI China Center will also support the AI research community by funding and sponsoring AI conferences and workshops, and working closely with the vibrant Chinese AI research community.
