Contrary to what The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday, Google is not folding Chrome OS into Android.

The man in charge of Android and Chrome OS has said that Google remains committed to the latter, despite multiple reports that the company plans to merge the two operating systems later this year. "There's a ton of momentum for Chromebooks and we are very committed to Chrome OS," Android and Chrome OS SVP Hiroshi Lockheimer said on Twitter. "I just bought two for my kids for schoolwork!"

Well that sucks, Chrome OS is the worst Google product ever. I'm sick of explaining to be people why their notebook can't run X or do Y because Chrome OS doesn't support any kind of 3rd party applications. At least if it supported Android apps they'd have some sort of support.

Ah, this will not stop the other thread from becoming a anti whatever company thread. I have yet to use Chrome OS although I have messed around with it at Best Buy once.

You run into a lot of people who have Chromebooks?

And they're trying to run what on it again?

Let me guess... "Photoshop!"

The writing is on the wall; Google confirms it's "committed" to Chrome OS. This means only one thing:

Start planning the funeral.

The main issue with it is that Chrome OS fills a niche for people who only use it for word processing and media consumption but who doesn't want to do more with their laptop or mobile device. I feel they could do so much better instead of gimping their own products.

That should be a large percentage of the mobile computer market. Chrome OS isn't a terrible product overall from an administration stand point its a pretty nice OS, however I would much rather see it fall in line with Android. Repacking APKs to run on Chrome OS can be annoying.
