In what is most probably a PR stunt to generate business, a Seattle bar has preemptively banned the wearing of Google Glass in the establishment and made it known that customers wearing the product would be removed from what is called a ‘seedy’ establishment with prejudice. It seems the owner wants to protect his clientele from public view. Speaks volumes about the clientele. :D

"Part of this is a joke, to be funny on Facebook, and get reaction. But part of it's serious, because we don't let people film other people or take photos unwanted of people in the bar, because it is kind of a private place that people go"

eh, they might just well ban every phone with a camera if their reason is privacy. Google glasses are great, just like beats headphones and bluetooth headsets you can now spot douch bags from far far away without even having to talk to them.

There are places that doesn't allow camera to prevent the public from taking pictures for security reasons. I'd imagine Google glasses would not be allowed in these places too.

It's much easier though to see people taking photos with a phone than it is to see someone taking a photo with Google glass in theory. I've seen waitresses in bars ask people taking photos to stop with a sort exert about "Sorry, we don't allow photography in here!".

I imagine google glass will be or already is banned from movie theatres for similar reasons? Even though cellphones are allowed and cellphone camera's are probably on high-end models as good as digital camcorders from the mid to late 90s. I think that once again comes down to, someone pointing their cellphone at a screen for '2 hours' in a row is obvious recording obviously spotted by employees during 'checks' done periodically during movies. Someone with google glass staring at the screen with their head unmoving for '2 hours'...its uncertain...whether its recording or not since its the same-motion as watching.

Does anyone actually think this place is doing this for any other reason than the free publicity?

Last time I checked, Bars/Coffee Shops/Resturants were Public places......
Expect your picture to be taken at all times.

Uncle Google disapproves of efforts to ban or deny the use of any innovative product which allows Google to invade the privacy of the wearer or unsuspecting bystanders. It's bad for the business of collecting data if people aren't permitted to spend money on devices that allow them to act as Mobile Google Spy Drones.

How are we supposed to run facial recognition against photos that include club performers so they can be associated to their own Gmail accounts and phones, then shown advertisements containing discounts for massage oils and information about treatments for sexually transmitted diseases?

Last I checked privately owned businesses had the right to tell people not to film/photograph their clients.

I read this on Flipboard earlier. It's more the covert nature of how Google glass can snap photos that's at the heart of the controversy. I'm with the cafe/bar on this one. I don't like the thought of people subtly and illicitly taking pictures of me or who I'm with at such an establishment. With phones, it's obvious, someone's awkwardly holding their device upright (turn it sideways, moron) and in general people will be aware that there's a camera in the vicinity.

Having lived just a block away from the 5 Point for almost two years, I can't say that I'm surprised by this.

Though the funny part is that there are quiet a few photos of very drunk patrons (and of course they are predominately photos of good looking women) plastered all over the wall of the bar. Then there's all the bra's hanging on the moose heads.

Oh, and all the times I had women walk in on me while using the urinal. They have a periscope you can look through in the urinal that allows you to see the Space Needle.

one part robot and three parts asshole?

Maybe the problem is that Google Goggles have the same effect as beer goggles. You know, making people seem more interesting and attractive than they really are. Quicker hookups mean less bar revenue.:D

I dont know much of anything about google glass, but can i drive and watch a movie/porn with it?

Its a video camera mounted to your head.
Any place that has a problem with this simply will.
You can choose who you sell to, as long as your choices aren't discriminatory by law.
There is no law, as far as I am aware, that states you must serve someone with a video camera on their head.
Restricted clubs are not for general public accommodation.
If you pull out your camera phone in a strip club and start taking pictures your probably going to find yourself in trouble.
Insert your favorite, "Oh, Really?" meme here.

Those places are "open to the public", that does not make them public places like a street corner or a park.
