This. Damn, what if we weaned ourselves off oil, had cleaner air and water, and it was all a waste!

Right. Is efficiency and sustainability such horrible things that we must fight against it just because we just like to disagree with scientists for fun?

Is it so bad to clean up the world that we just keep doing what we are doing for spite? sigh

America is going to lose the war on climate change because they are fighting on the wrong front. America continually makes improvements and yet it is never enough. Realistically I will never be affected by climate change because of America, it will be markets such as China and India that ruin the planet if they don't change. However my wallet and other Americans will feel the pinch on our wallets with our policy changes.

Not a great idea to quote that guy, he's a comedian that doesn't weigh in on all sides of the issue and is frankly fucktarded at times.

For example, there is a big difference between adopting conservationist policies, and jumping on the Al Gore/Obama bandwagon, where you create this false economy of buying and selling carbon credits to make certain bankers and politicians ungodly wealthy, or putting subsidies into wasteful projects for political and economic gain.

And that's the problem, when you start talking about carbon trading and mega-corporations and politics, the science soon starts to become funded by organizations getting the answers that they desire to have, and it loses all objectivity.

There's also a big difference between putting primary focus on reducing known harmful pollutants and mere carbon-dioxide that you're expelling right now and "is what plants crave".

I hear you.....................but my questions are..............

How much CO2 and other greenhouse gasses (methane) etc do people actually put into the atmosphere?

As compared to natural greenhouse gas releases (volcanoes, methane seeps....moo cows< OK, semi natural on that one) what percentage are humans actually contributing, and is it enough to actually cause a noticeable change?

Is natural carbon scrubbing/elimination increasing on it's own in response to increased CO2 levels?

Solar cycles, and do these cycles have any significant impact on global temps?

I do believe that climate change is occurring. I just question causality, and degree/extent. It just seems to me that numbers are continually being revised as if the climate model, although progressing, is still not tweeked to the point where we can have absolute confidence in it. In retrospect, either the climate models themselves are off, or the scientists/researchers are inputting bogus/mistaken/incorrect data (GIGO).

Just an opinion, I could be wrong. IMHO, reducing our carbon/greenhouse gas emission is a good thing, so long as there is an economic balance.

CO2 concentration over the past 800,000 years from ice cores at Dome C, Vostok, Taylor Dome, and Law Dome.

Make your own conclusions.

I think a lot of the foolishness thinking by the 'climate change is a scam/lets do nothing people' is because of the propaganda put out by big business like big oil, big dirty energy, etc. They want to muddy the debate and spewing BS to the common folk or religious nuts helps them a lot, as they either don't care or worse, they want to watch the world end anyway (so their religion proves true, finally).

The fact is planets are completely capable of ending without human interaction, so to assume that seven plus billion people causing all sorts of havoc on one can't have any noticeable effect is just insane.

Both planets right next to Earth are great examples.

"But what if we're wrong about climate change and we create a better world for nothing!?" - Comment quote for the video

Touching. Problem is the "solution" means crippling the world's economy and quality of life. I'm not willing to ruin all that for the sake of a hoax. The temperature was a little cooler in the 70's so it was global cooling and the world was doomed. In the 90's it was a little warmer so it was global warming and the world was doomed. In the 2000's the temperature didn't change so it's just climate change that anything from heavy snow storms to tornadoes could be blamed on. It's amazing these crackpot theories have any credibility at all. The atmosphere is a couple hundred miles deep and 23,000 miles wide (circumference of the earth) not to mention the distance from the sun and it's output that isn't the same all the time. It's like sitting on the ocean pouring a quart of oil in every day expecting to turn the ocean black. Something like 96% of what makes up the greenhouse effect is water vapor. And only a small percentage of the remaining 4% are manmade. Mankind is a lot more insignificant than people think in terms of this giant planet that's been around for 4.5 billion years.

I laugh at people who think that people with power care about climate change. The only reason they "care" about it is due to the fact that they have the power to make it a money bonanza for themselves and their friends. This is the problem. Only the scientists care about the research and the data. They can't get grants to do research unless they find data that supports a point of view.

IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.

"Google Calls Climate Change Science Deniers..."

Is it then okay to call climate change proponents "Climate Change Alarmists?"

Climate change is bullshit plain and simple. A tool for political power and control.
Remember when the term "Climate Change" didn't exist? They said "Global Warming" then they realized they couldn't support the warming rhetoric long term so they made the problem more ambiguous by calling it "climate change".
When are people going to realize that the powers that be don't give a rats ass about the environment, or the poor, or education or anything. All they care about is keeping themselves in power and lining their pockets with stupid peoples money.

They don't care about you!

George Carlin sums it up nicely:

Whats your point? Are you suggesting that this is the only drought that has ever happened? Weather patterns bring periods of abnormally high rain and periods of abnormally low rain. It is called an average for a reason. It isn't like if the average rainfall is 50 inches a year that it rains exactly 50 inches a year.

Here's another way to look at it. Say 100 years from now, we have concrete/undeniable proof that the climate was changing, and it was out of control.

Would you rather we had spent 100 years improving on our methods of power, manufacturing etc, or waste 100 years by arguing about whether mankind was the cause of the problem? I, for one, would rather see the improvement for the sake of improvement. If we had weaned off fossil fuels in 50 years (out of that 100 year scenario), perhaps there would then be evidence 50 years later that we *were* causing problems, but it's not a species ending scenario at that point.

Mankind is a lot more insignificant than people think in terms of this giant planet that's been around for 4.5 billion years.

There is your problem, you think humanity can't do what it actually can do. We can blow this planet into pieces of we wanted to, given enough time.

If humans can't hurt this planet, lets try it out. Lets convert all of humanities resources into building up every single way theoretically possible into blowing up the Earth and then drilling holes to the core dropping everything we got into it. Even if it takes decades, centuries, or a millennia, we can just keep at it. Then, when what should be obvious now is proven then, we can jump in our time machine and come back to today when we ignored those smarter than us simply because our brains lacked rational understanding.

There is nothing in the known universe that doesn't die given enough time. So to assume humans can't speed up the death of our own planet is insane, IMO.

Damn straight and so is gravity. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to see if I can fly like Superman.

Gravity isn't a theory, it is a force. Evolution is a theory because no one alive has been able to see the change the theory suggests. Everyone alive has been able to directly experience the force of gravity.

Ahhh yes, of course Google;

My fleet of hummers ended the ice age!
The sun has no bearing on the earth.
The age of the dinosaurs had much higher C02 and huge lifeforms across the board.
Antarctica was covered in forests.

Global warming, uh, climate change, uh anthropogenic climate change, uhh - well.. it cannot be climate same can it? Now it's some other name no doubt. Bit like FSA, Al Nursa, ISIS etc.. keep changing it so people think such 'moderate beheaders' are different.

But of course I'm paid by big oil to say this. Jayyyzus. Even the average Joe can figure this shit out.

Climate change is inevitable.

There are far greater forces at work then us wee little humans.

There is climate change - we're getting more severe storms and weather shifts in certain regions that don't align with the norm. Combined with droughts and other odd weather.

The question up for debate is, what is causing it? Is it the c02 emissions or just a natural cycle of the system?

LOL, you think this is average?

We're talking about the worst drought in 500 years. Every summer has been wildfire season in California.

UNHEARD of in the 1970's-1990's.

The denial is strong in this one.

Universal gravity is indeed a theory.
Evolution, as a process, is a fact.
The evolution of our species would be a theory, however it is supported by both DNA and transitional fossils.

At some point climate change alarmism needs to be ignored much like other bullshit memes.

See the difference between "alarmists" and "deniers" is that "alarmists" have science on their side .... it really is that simple.

Evolution is carried out routinely in labs across the nation. Bacterial populations are evolved to meet specifications. It works just as well on a larger scale.

Evolution is not a theory. The theory part is that mammalian evolution produced humans, which seems exceedingly likely at this point.

Why is it only the religious nutcase Republicans (yes I know that's redundant) are the first in line to deny and protest anything that's related to science - whether its climate change, evolution, environmental impact, extraterrestrial life etc? And in their defense they have nothing but a mythical book of fiction on which they base decisions that affect the lives of millions.

Faith is fact. :D

Denying, and wanting proof that isn't doctored and manipulated are two different things. On the other hand, why is it that nutcase atheists Democrats (yes I know that's redundant) believe anything they are told with out asking any questions.

If you want to be involved in the debate quit being a douchebag and stick to the topic at hand. Throwing in ad homien attacks makes your point sound really week.

Totally not commenting about (Human Influenced) Climate Change (those who deny climate change, in general, are super whackadoos), but you do realize that stuff like this happens in cycles, right? Ermagerd, worst in 500 years! Guess what? They'll probably be saying the same thing in another 500 years.

......

the human genome sequencing... coupled with the sequencing of other genomes, proves evolution beyond any doubt. It's a fact.

Get over it.

you fail.

anti vaxxers and anti gmo tards are overwhelmingly liberal democrats.

As the resident atheist anarchist, I have concluded all but a few of you live in a state of permanent cognitive dissonance and are patently insane.

You do realize you're citing a black guy when dealing with Stiletto, right?

This is true. There are absurd retards on both sides of the political spectrum.

Why is the future of our planet a political issue? Regardless of your position on climate change, human damage to Earth cannot be ignored. We have one planet and one chance to survive.

Think about this planet for a second.

We can breathe the air. Take it for granted.
We can drink the water. Take it for granted.
Liquid water literally falls from the sky to sustain us and our craps. Take it for granted.
All manner of flora and fauna aid us, feed us, protect us, and give us companionship. Take it for granted.

This planet is heaven. We are already in heaven. Don't make it about bullshit politics. Make it about rationality and a desire to protect our future.
