No kidding, all the best to Kyle if this is true and sadly I think it may be the end of [H]. Being effective on April 1st is funny though and likely enough to be discredit this. ;)

Oh man, been following this page long before I joined as a member.... momentous change, wow... but extremely glad for you and what you can do for the community. Thanks for all the reviews, banter, guidance, and for one of the best tech pages on the internet. One of the few I even bother with anymore...

Stay [H]ard Kyle, fair winds and following seas

Sooo, the problem here is, my rule for two decades has been
"Don't buy expensive computer components until HardOCP has tested and approved them."

So I guess, other than Seasonic PSUs, I'm not going to be able to buy stuff anymore??

Not that there's been much exciting to buy lately, but....

Best of luck, Kyle, but I'm screwed now. ;)

I can understand wanting to move in your career, but mothballing HardOCP seems like a shortsighted thing to do. Many of us rely on it as a highly trusted source of journalistic integrity!

I'm not okay with HardOCP being mothballed and the forums being sold.

Either this is a joke, or a betrayal. And I'm not saying that because it's Intel, I'm saying that because this is the complete opposite of what I've come to expect here at HardOCP. :/

It may just be a coincidence about the April 1 date. April 1 just happens to be the first business day of the month this year, and it's a Monday, so it could be real. I don't want to say I'm hoping 50/50 that it's not true, because it will be an awesome move for both Kyle and the community at large, but I will be extremely sad to see that there will be no more reviews and editorials here.

This is an odd feeling. I'm 33, and I've been reading HardOCP for over 20 years. I've been an [H] reader for the majority of my life that I can remember, and [H] has been on my startup list in my browser for years. It's going to be weird not having you guys around. At least the forum will still be here.

That being said I can understand your want to do something new after this long. Best of luck to you Kyle.

    I guess

I can't say I blame Kyle for closing down [H]. Look at what happened to Anandtech after Anand left. It's gone down hill quite a bit since Purch took over.

damn, i really hope HardForum can live on without a funding source. I have my doubts, but this is the place where I learned how to build PCs in the early 2000's and then OCing and then custom watercooling and then networking and storage and servers..... and damn... well everything I know about PC tech.

i buy and sell on the BST weekly and check the best deals section almost hourly :D

Best of luck to you.... but first PCPer and now HardOCP Intel is getting some quality people but at the expense of the community :(

    RIP [H]

If this true, abandoning the site is going to garner you nothing but ill will with the new [H]ardPurchReddit that is coming.

I just couldn't do it*. What a way to make a badass migraine morning worse.

Congratulations on the new job, Kyle_Bennett , and best of luck with this opportunity.

It'll be sad to see HardOCP go on hiatus and it definitely leaves a big gap as far as unbiased and rigorous reviews go, but I think there's no other choice - there's a big conflict of interest if Kyle doesn't step away completely, and no guarantee that a new buyer for [H] would maintain the same standards as we've come to expect. The forums are a different story in terms of new ownership because they're far more driven by the userbase than the main site, but again we'll need to see what happens here. I am slightly concerned that this could mean some undesirable changes to the forums depending on who takes them over, but I'm prepared to wait and see on that score. To be honest, Kyle deciding to mothball HardOCP and sell Hardforum shows that he's a guy with integrity, so fair play to him for taking what must have been a really tough decision.

Finally, I think "betrayal" is ridiculously OTT. Kyle needs to do what he thinks is best for him, his family and his career. The fact that his new job is all about enthusiast engagement is, to me, a really good thing - I'd be saying that whether it was at Intel, AMD or Nvidia: every company out there needs to maintain and encourage that link with their enthusiasts and often that falls by the wayside in the modern corporate environment. Kyle can do great work in this area, so best of luck to him. Or do people expect him to stay here running [H] until the end of time? Doesn't seem reasonable to me.

I'm sure the health insurance Intel will provide will be a relief compared to what Kyle had to deal with while being self-employed.

In all seriousness though if this is the truth, glad to see you going to the bigger leagues Kyle. I've kept HardOCP as my home page for over a decade now and it's kept me filled with great news and reviews that have helped me push my career forward as well. Excited for your next play but it won't keep Zen 2 out of my builds :b Make sure to keep the epic level of integrity you had here and keep Intel accountable. We want 5ghz on air versions of haswell as well please on 10nm while you're at it.

Best of luck on the new job, Kyle! Maybe you and Ryan can help straighten out things over there.

As for anyone who is whinging about not having a place to blah blah blah everyday, you guys know there's a Patreon for the forum right? If I can cut out one Starbucks trip and drop the tenner into the Patreon cup for [H], I'm sure the rest of you guys can do the same.
