What's a decent free program to open .rar files? Most of them I can find look like they're either sharewhare or spyware.

Uhhh, how about WinRAR? I think you get a good trial version.

Personally, I prefer 7-zip, which will unzip just about any format out there, and compress to .zip, .bkzip, and the great .7z format.

7zip is the good 'free' answer to basically any compression, including RAR.

I like Winrar, but free sounds good. I think I'll look into those mentioned above for my other PC.

    izarc

It's good enough that I install it on all of my computers and I haven't bothered to find any better alternative if there is one. Winzip, winrar, and window's zip utility are either too clunky or the nag screen are all fixed with IZarc which is freeware.

I've used Powerarchiver, 7 zip and winrar. Win rar is the best one of the three, reason being, I've had some .rar files that 7zip kept on coming up with corrupted file errors upon extration. Powerarchiver also came across this same problem.

I'd use winrar and it would extract just fine. So screw 7zip and the rest. Its all about Winrar.
