I see that alot of people get mixed results with multiple AMD 2500+ setups. Some better than others. I will say right off the bat that Im defitnly gonna OC it. Im fixed on what ram to get. PQI Turbo PC3200 with the 2-2-2-5 timings. Everything else I have already & just need the mobo & cpu. Will be most likly be getting an OEM CPu since I wanna get an Vantec Aeroflow. Im looking to go no higher than $200 for a combo of a CPU/MOBO/HSF so Thats my budget imma be working with. All suggestions are welecomd, even if its not an AMD CPU. Thx in advance.

for $200, you can get a dfi infinity ultra, 2600+ mobile barton, and a thermalright hsf

---This combo will get you 2.5ghz easily :)

DFI NFII infinity ultra
or EPoX 8RDA6+ Pro if you want on-chip gigE :)

Yeah I browsed around & saw that that specific brand of EPoX board got some really high OC results. Saw the price to lol, guess I'll get what I pay for. Might go with that setup, unless something else comes across. I did run by this review.

So im deciding between the 2 choices as of now.

what nobody likes the asus boards anymore? I've got a 2500+ in a asus a7n8x-E deluxe and its great. I have a freind who has the abit nf7 board and we both max our FSB's at 210mhz. He bought a mobile axp and he gets 2500mhz though, mine only will do 2200mhz stably, but thats with maxing out the volts at 1.85. I need that uber bios so i can cook my athlon some more.

I hit descent OC speeds on my nf7-s 2.0 and I love it, no problem

so it gets another vote

my mobile 2400+ will only do 2.3 stable in my A7N8X Deluxe 2.0.
in my friend's NF7-S 2.0 it'll do 2.5. It's not ram limited, either. I don't push my ram past 200mhz.

hehe, my sig speaks otherwise.

But on the ongoing discussion, I would suggest the NF7-S or DFI board as those two are very mature mobos for OCing. The A7N8X simply cannot do the FSB OCing that those two can. In terms of clock frequency OCing, I'm sure if you do the L12 mod, you can usually just set it to 13 x 200 around 1.7-1.75Vcore, and you'll be good.

.: XP-M 2600+ @ 2.5Ghz = 12 x 209 [1.7Vcore]
A7N8X2.0 BIOS 1007 | 2 x 512MB Buffalo PC3200 CH-5 @ 3-3-3-11 [2.8Vdimm]
Why is your CH-5 at CAS3? Mine runs 2-3-2 @ 200, and 2.5-3-3 all the way up to 215-216 or so in dual. Also, 209fsb isnt that great, my a7n8x deluxe is good for around 220 or so (with active northbridge cooling).

Lol, when did I say 209FSB was great? I was only pointing out that A7N8X's can go over 2.5Ghz.

My NB isn't getting active cooling, so yeah, I don't expect to get that much over 211 (which is my bench-max). For gaming, however, 211 will drop back to desktop @ 1.7Vcore, which is why I drop back to 208.

I haven't tried anymore Vcore so I'm gonna have to see. Concerning the cas3, I don't actually remember why I'm at cas3, so its good you reminded me to check it out. Looks like I fiddle around some more with this setup (though I'm looking to go 939 soon).

The NF7-S2 is a new version, without soundstorm, and doesnt have multiplier options in the BIOS, the NF7-S rev2 and the other dfi/epox boards mentioned are better.

wow.. i must of been really lucky with my a7n8x. i could get to 235mhz on my fsb without doing anything other than placing a small piece of metal on the southbridge to disspate heat.
i normally run it at 220x10. 2.2ghz is good for a nice round 3200+.. not bad for an old 2500+, hehe

You are lucky dude. The same chance of getting a rev1.04 that would have done 200FSB or more (back in the day). In 2003, if you had an A7N8X you'd know what I mean...*shaking head*

Some people's chipsets voltages were simply higher, out of random variance in manufacturing I suppose...

i have a rev2 a7n8x (not deluxe)
it was made in august of 2003. i suppose i really am just really really lucky then. woot. now if only i got the equivilent in a cpu.

I was talking about the experiences in 2003, with mobos made in 2002 (i.e. the A2 and A3 southbridges). Rev2 is C1.
