GOG Refusing To Distribute Hatred?

You're quite literally comparing apples to oranges. Hatred is rated M not AO. What's the difference between stocking a game like Witcher 3 which is M and includes nudity and graphic violence versus a game like Hatred which is also rated M and contains graphic violence?

Who cares though? They don't have to use reason or logic to explain their choices, we might like it if they did, but certainly is not owed to us. Their store and they can carry or not carry items as they see fit. Now making this a habit, choosing to not carry games on what is perceived as a whim, could hurt their sales. Although limited to a few occasions I doubt it will hurt them at all.

On a separate note; my only objection to the game is the overly dramatic angst-ridden writing that comes across from the protagonist in the trailers.

Maybe GOG is just protecting themselves from the headaches of being included in the inevitable lawsuits that follow some loony toon using the game as an excuse for some murderous rampage.

Most retailers won't stock games rated AO, I don't really agree with it but it's pretty common.

Being honest: the name of the game leaves me cold. Do I want to buy a game called "Hatred"? Not a bit. It reeks. The word "hate" in our current popular society is butchered enough as it is. Today, the popular meaning for hate is to express criticism--for some sad people, mere criticism, whether richly deserved (or not), is all lumped together in the word "hate." I believe the slang meaning originated with frustrated Mac users tired of having OS X/Mac/Apple constantly criticized by people using better products--the phrase "haters gonna' hate" comes to mind (the first time I saw the meaning of "hate" corrupted in this fashion)--the knee-jerk response of some Mac owners to criticism--regardless of how justified such criticism actually is. It seems that like everything else Apple touches, even words in the English language are corrupted by the company's raging desire to profit from mediocrity above all other concerns--most especially the freedoms of the people who buy and use its products. But don't get me started...;)

I remember playing Thrill Kill on the psx. That was also banned/not sold here. Also the Columbine RPG *shrugs*. Both pretty stupid games but I get temped by things that most say I should stay away from. (will die from curiosity and spite one day).

The only reason this is blowing up like that is journalists stirring the fire to get clicks and reddit just well being redidit. So what if GoG doesnt want to sell it, what is their library versus total pc games? I am sure there is plenty that is not there. Just go buy the game from a vendor that sells it, seems simple enough to me.

I like to make valid arguments but no one can think straight enough to counter them with me :(

Since you're desperate for some counter points, I'll throw a few your way for the sake of charity:

1) GoG has the right to decide what games they do or do not want to sell, for whatever reason. It's their business, they make the decisions on how to run it.

2) GoG's management has no obligation to make decisions that you or anyone else personally agree or disagree with.

3) Nobody on this message board is obligated to argue with you, regardless of how much you may want them to.

Does that help to lift your spirits a bit? :)

hahahahahahahahah

Wait, were you serious? Well, let me laugh even more.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

When it comes to the amount of games offered, Steam is much better than GoG. GoG has old games and the Witcher games (also just got that GoT game), so the choices are pretty limited. You can also argue that Steam is easier if you want to have all your games in one location, while GoG gives you much more freedom with your actual game files.

What's with the hate? Some of you seem to be a bit angry for being part of a message board. Oh well, GOG isn't going to be catching up to Steam anytime soon anyway so this entire situation is pretty pointless anyway.

"Often, when we guess other's motives, we reveal our own."

if the game sells really well I bet GOG will change their mind quick...they know this game is more likely to be a dud so they decided to use it as a soapbox and make a political statement

I don't disagree with GOG on this one. TBH, if I owned a game store, I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to stock this shitty-looking title. I imagine the creator wants to generate enough "controversy" to sell more titles, not achieve any sort of social objective. "Free speech means I can make a game about raping all the people on Earth! I'll show them!"

I remember buying State of Emergency because it's fun in sandbox games like Fallout or GTA to snap and murder EVERYONE IN THE WORLD. When that's the only point of the game, things quickly fell flat. Ugh, that game sucked. This one probably won't be much different.

Postal is just barely something I can stand. Mostly because of the ridiculously crude humor and comic violence. Not so much just a mass murder simulator and the fact that the devs made sure you can really tell how realistically a jogger begs for her life as you spray her brains on the sidewalk.

I'm not being hateful. I don't even know you, so I have no reason to hate you. I'm actually in a rather pleasant mood. I was just throwing you some conversational fodder. :)

Won't sell Hatred but have no problem selling Postal Classic Uncut and Postal 2...?

Comparing Postal to this game is pretty silly. This game is sick and encourages the murder of woman and children in great graphic detail. Not understanding the difference from members on this forum doesn't surprise me.

Here are some screenshots for comparison:

I'm still sure you won't get it.

I am shocked that a murder simulator from 12 years ago lacks the same "great graphic detail" that a modern Unreal Engine game has.

I am shocked that you have obviously never played a Postal game, yet posting defense of this game in comparison. Comparing Postal as a murder simulator to this game is pretty moronic. I get it, you are sad the world hates you and will do whatever to accept this game as "art", but it's not and I applaud GOG for giving them the finger.

***Postal was a joke. They purposely made it that way to piss people off and 90% of it was a bad attempt at comedy. This is not.

So it doesn't?
You can't kill children and It doesn't encourage shit unless you actually enjoy being a psycho path in the first place.

"It's dark, even surreal-dark at times. I asked a friend to play it once and he said, "because of that design and soundtrack I feel like a fucking psychopath." And that means we did something right. Our Antagonist makes comments or long speeches from time to time. Sometimes they are so evil that they're funny, but that depends on your sense of humor."

Funny how similar that sounds to the original postal game and its reactions to it. Infact it's almost identical.

Yes Postal is largely satire but that doesn't stop you from being able to commit depraved acts. I can kick a woman to death or taser her until she begins to vomit and pass out. I can then cover her in gasoline and set her on fire then piss on her screaming, vomiting, burnt remains. For good measure you can even decapitate someone while they vomit and see the vomit/blood spurt out of their neck hole.

Hatred was intentionally created to piss people off and make headlines, just like the Postal series.Do I know you?

Like I said, you have not played the Postal series. Postal is to Mass Murder as GTA was to mass murder. This is to mass murder as actual mass murder is to mass murder, violent, dark and graphic. I don't get how that you can't comprehend the difference.

Do I know you? No, but your responses define your character.

Yes you can. In a 100% satire setting. Even with the witty quips after. The thing is you can "realistically" do much worse things in Hatred with none of the satire, just the sadness that children want to simulate it.

At one point they released videos/screens with children as victims. They probably pulled it back due to public outcry and chances of the game being blacklisted. I do see that children cannot be murdered at this point. I'm sure there will be that fantastic mod tho for you true "enthusiasts"!

Ahh porno is rates AO only too. If the game got green lit people want to buy it, let them have it.

I don't understand why people think they have a right to dictate what a store can or cannot sell. It's completely up to the store if they want to sell a product. IMHO the developer just wants to make some kind of a big deal out of this to try to generate some controversy and sales.

This is definitely true. But it seems a bit hypocritical to sell something like Postal but not Hatred. I've played neither but people have compared them in the way that seems relevant to why Hatred won't be sold.

You have no idea what censorship is or actually entails if you think Twitch not wanting this kind of pointless hornet's nest to explode all over their site is censorship.

I think it's bullshit that nudity is more of a trigger than violence for people 90% of the time. This is the first game we've had in a long time that's actually been garnering a large amount of disapproval.
