'Godfather of Spam' Sentenced to Four Years in Prison

According to the Department of Justice, one of the biggest spammers in the U.S. is on his way to prison to serve four years. Don’t feel bad for him though, at least he'll have his son-in-law to keep him company.

Alan Ralsky, 64, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, was sentenced to 51 months in prison in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, according a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Ralsky pleaded guilty in June to conspiring to commit wire fraud, mail fraud and violating the CAN-SPAM act.

Meh, should have lynched him in front of the courthouse. That would stop this shit REAL fast.

Good, maybe someone will break his fingers in prison and rip out his vocal cords so he can't communicate any more and stop doing this crap.

Lately I'm getting a ton of Russian spam. Wonder who's behind that.

Like anyone in the US would do anything with it or even know what it says....

Funny how this forum swings so hard to the right when it comes to corporations and capitalism, but gets outraged over spam? I don't get you folks. Spammers got to make a living too. Would you rather they just soak up some welfare benefits? Can't have it both ways people.
 
Spammers don't bother so much that I would wish harm to them. But he was caught and sentenced, I suppose he deserved it.
 
The prison inmates are going to SPAM his ass real good.

By your logic all criminal behavior is fine because they are just making a living.

Yeah, and so do shady stock brokers and ponzi scheme thugs and Hard money lenders (think GUIDO at the pool hall)

Spam isn't just an inconvenience, it's an intrusion and an unnecessary expense in a lot of IT budgets. It ruins forums, wastes productive time and contains no useful content. You can't even enjoy any of the attached porn pics without your virus scanner getting involved for god's sake!

The guy will be back to spamming once he gets out. Should have been a longer sentence.
 
Spam email, like junk faxes, are simply trespass-to-chattels. Restitution to those who were spammed is the correct approach, rather than having our tax money support this guy in prison. The victims are harmed twice: once by the trespass and once by the theft in the form of taxation.

By your "logic," does that apply to drug dealers, kiddie pornographers, rapists, murderers, etc? Basically, you're taking a single phrase out of the Holy Bible (turn the other cheek), and putting it horribly out of context.

To put it bluntly, if you don't like the idea of your activities possibly leading up to a criminal sentence, then you should pursue other LAWFUL activities.

In all seriousness, it's not like this guy was an "innocent" spammer. He was attempting to commit wire fraud, perhaps identity theft and who knows what else. He deserves to go to jail for the time he got, and probably a lot longer.
