Gmail out of sync between OSX Mail & iPhone Mail

I use Gmail between my MBP and iPhone. When I get some new emails on the laptop and read them in OSX Mail they get marked as "read" there.
However, when they get delivered to the iPhone, they are still marked as "unread".
Another oddity is when I send an email through the Gmail web interface, the message I sent shows up in my Mail inbox.

Anybody have a fix to make my Gmail act normally between the MBP and iPhone?


(another Google services related Q, any way to edit and add appointments to my calendar within the Calendar app? It seems I can only add appts. through Googles web interface)
 
Is your gmail account setup as an IMAP or POP account in OSX mail? I think it has to be IMAP, and those settings transferred to the iphone for it to work like you want.
 
Thanks for the tip, setup OSX Mail as IMAP now, will let you know if it makes a difference. It was POP.
 
Just following up, both OSX Mail and iPhone Mail are both using IMAP and everything works as it should.
