After playing with and comparing my old Gateway 2185w to a Hanns-G 28in and a Gateway FHD 2400, I'm convinced that a glossy screen on a PVA/MVA family monitor would be a compelling purchase.

I can easily adjust my room lighting.

Do they exist?

I'm only aware of the Westinghouse 2410NM. They say that's supposed to be MVA although the box specs scream TN.

The westy's come with MVA panel. Its 8ms 1000:1 contrast ratio

Yes, they exist and I used to have one...the Acer Ferrari F-20 with a P-MVA panel. great PQ and viewing angles, almost the equal of IPS imo..

Um....

The Westy L2410NM is distinctly MVA. The issue was that the older boxes were printed prior to the panel being confirmed, and they were cheap and didn't reprint. Bit of a cock-up.

It is NOT, however, a glossy screen. The _border_ is glossy. Sorry.

I think the 24" Apple iMac has a glossy screen. I'm hoping Apple releases a glossy 24" monitor, maybe in January.

so the 20inch VA type panels do come with glossy but nothing above?... I wonder why not...
Probably because no one is trying to use their >20" VA panel as a mirror.

The way I see it glossy screens appeal mostly to the same type of people who like TN panels, so the two go hand in hand.

No need to be insulting, Stereodude. I had a NEC 20WMGX2 and a Dell S-IPS side by side for a month and ended up narrowly choosing the glossy NEC, mainly because I find Dell's anti-glare coating very annoying. I'd like a larger monitor with a good panel and a glossy (or at least inoffensive) coating.

How can you find an anti-glare coating to be annoying? Sure, it softens the pixels ever so slightly through the diffusion on the surface, but what else does it do?

Makes it look 1000x better for games , almost to CRT good for colors and for not showing any pixelation

I am not some Photoshop freak who gives a crap about colors being accurate down to a microscopic level nor do I put a spotlight behind me when I play or work on the computer so the glossy screens work fine and I find it amusing some people cannot quite manage to not have all these reflections when I have no problems with them

All I know is I have the NEC 20" Glossy that came out a year or so ago and the only reason I couldnt keep it for my main gaming monitor is the size - I use the Westy 37" (and before the Dell 30" ) and have the NEC in the room as a TV and a new alum Imac with the 24" glossy and both look much , much better color and smoothness wise than the Westy or the Dell -

If you don't like them fine , but to many the glossy screen coating makes them look much , much better - again it gets them close to CRT looks wise with better brightness and colors for games

A 30" 2560x1600 with the glossy screen would be my ideal and dream monitor

If by control the lighting you mean use it with no lighting or light colored objects nearby, then sure.

Thats true... I forgot... back in the day when my mommy made me keep the lights on, then no way could I use these types of monitors.

 Right, I'll just turn off the lights in the office I work in and tape over the windows with tinfoil to block all the light. ;)

I've got the soyo 24" and it has a glossy screen. It's not so pronounced as some laptops I have seen, but it definitely is more glossy than my Dell 2005fpw. I think it's a good compromise.
