Just wanted to doublecheck on something. I've kept the cooler AMD supplied me for my FX-53 (939) in pristine condition (still has the cover on it and everything).

My friend is getting the Athlon 64 3000+ (939). To make things cheaper, I proposed that he gets the OEM and he can use my cooler that I never used. He's worried of incompatibilities. I'm sure this shouldn't be a problem though right?

The HSF will work fine but be aware that AMD requires the original HSF to be returned with the cpu if you have to RMA your FX-53. The serial number for the cpu is on the fan on the HSF. I RMA'd an FX53 and a 2800+ and AMD required the HSF both times. Just an FYI.

No problem. Like you I don't use my stock HSF. It just sits there. Glad I had it when my cpu died. Would have sucked to have to buy a new cpu because I threw out my HSF.
