Gillian Anderson Up For Being The Next James Bond

She's just too old for the role, honestly. Good actress but, that's not what being Bond is really all about. ;)

We don't need a "Jane Bond" to be honest and anyone pushing this so-called agenda to take all the male leads in adventure tales from years past really needs to find something better to do.

I remember a quote from Gloria Steinem years ago that went something like this: she was headed to work someplace one day and outside the place she worked at their were a ton of "feminists" blocking the entrance picketing for some reason or another. One of the picketers stepped in front of her and screamed "We demand equal rights with men!!!" and Ms. Steinem asked her something like "So, you'll be happy if you get equal rights, complete equality with men, right?" and the girl responded with "YES!!! WE DESERVE IT, WE DEMAND IT, WE WANT IT!!!"

Gloria just laughed at the girl and it really pissed the picketer off as she screamed back "WHAT ARE YOU LAUGHING ABOUT?"

Gloria said "Honey, if all you want out of life is to be the equal of some man, you really need to find something better to protest about..." and pushed the girl aside and strode right through all of 'em without a care in the world.

She shoots, she scores! :D

Yeah, Get back in the Kitchen & make me a Sandwich!

If you want to change the sex of an iconic character just make a new intellectual property with the same content.

Targeting a new audience should not be done with piggy backing.

Could be an interesting twist, going for the whole femme fatale angle. Last time they turned things on their heads was the Brosnan era when Judi Dench became M and Moneypenny went from being a wilting flower constantly pining after Bond to a lady who saw right through his sauve act :p

Yeah, that new Ghost Busters is going to kill at the box office ...

You know you want it....

What passed for hot before hypersexualized unrealistic male body types became the norm in film and television.

Unfortunately she's too old. Back in 2000 she would have been great. I would have gone to see her as the new Bond.

I prefer that we go back to the previous Bonds where they put a bit of humor into it and not have to be so dark with their characters.

As a Bond Fan since the 70's, i was good to let it rest after Skyfall. It's dead to me. Craig was great, the best Bond by far, though i remember being a kid and watching Remington Steele thinking "this guy would make a perfect James Bond". But Casino Royale is the best Bond movie since Goldeneye, and i actually liked Quantum, plus is capped off Casino, plus Olga Kurylenko :hungry: The world has become to PC, too "inclusive" just for the sake of being "inclusive". A female Bond is stupid. Hell, the next Bond will probably be Caitlin Jenner "as Bruce Jenner" as James Bond. :ROFLMAO:

first was the Ghostbusters, now 007? I think women should be pay like man, but not be men. does anyone understand?

That might actually be hilarious enough to see.

I am very upset that a white man may not being doing something I consider to be the purview of white men.

Very upset.

I'm all for gender equality, but doesn't standing on the shoulders of men defeat the purpose? James Bond is a male character, I'm certainly not going to boycott the thing and it won't make me think negatively towards the franchise, I just find the thought process strange.

More original female heroins, please. Gillian Anderson was great in The Fall. Jennifer Lawrence in Hunger Games, pretty much every strong character in Game of Thrones at this point. We don't need to be re-purposing characters made famous by men.

Daenerys Targaryen is one of the "strongest" characters in modern fiction to this point of GoT (you never know where it could go with that show). Really the only strong male personalities who are not sans testicles are Jamie (who is on the down-slide) and Tyrion.

Let's do a few Bonds with Idris Elba, which I'm sure will get the most vocal group in the US's panties in a bundle for the obvious.

I think a giant, transgendered Bond would make for interesting entries into the series.

Damn, I never brought up Idris Elba expecting any of you to think that He was a She. He played Stringer Bell in "The Wire."

"The Wire" Find it, watch it.

I like Gillian but she's not really the kickass type, action type. A female Bond would have to be able to kick much ass and still be smooth. I'd go more towards someone like Gina Carano except she can't act... and isn't English. So just find a hot English chick that can act and kicks ass and get back to me.

OK, female bond I'm on board. But Gillian Anderson? C'mon that's the best we can come up with? She never was the action girl type. And now in her late 40s I don't think she will suddenly become a five foot sophisticated ass kicker.

The girl from Underworld would be my choice.

This, this and more this!

Kate Beckinsale would be perfect, well she's literally physically perfect anyway. They could make a movie of her doing yard work for 2 hours and I'd watch it. But if we must have a Jane Bond, she would be a perfect choice.

The character of Bond is a male character..period. If they want a female bond like character then come up with another series designed around a female special agent. I'm pretty sure most guys would pretty gladly watch a hot female super agent. There is no reason to change bonds character.

I don't understand this bickering. Especially with a character that has been changed almost a dozen times already. Why is the completely different characters of Connery, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan, Craig OK, but a change in gender not? What would be different if they'd call her differently? Why would you be interested then and not now? The name is nothing, it's just marketing. The series is an anthology anyway, there is no canon story to respect.

I've never found tough, sarcastic women who like to fight to be in any way attractive; the whole idea of feeling the need to get your face bashed in, or doing same to a woman, never seemed to be a turn on. While some men like their women to put up a fight, I just don't get it. The whole Lara Croft 'Tomb Raider' model never made much sense to me; inflicting pain, or being on the receiving end, as sexy fun? I don't get it. I understand that there might be some that do, but I just don't get it.

Great. A transsexual Hulk Hogan. Now that would frighten pretty much anyone.

Hi All

Another great choice for a female Bond would be Zoe Saldana

Changing the actor doesn't change the fundamental identity of a character. Changing its gender does. As I said, if they want a female super agent, then create another franchise. I'm all for that. I however see them changing bond as established as pointless and changing the fundamental identity of the character for no good reason.

Sorry, but the Character is James Bond, so if they want a female spy, just make a spy movie with a female leading role and start a different series. Leave Bond the way Ian Flemming created him.

I'm all for a kick ass female spy (Melissa McCarthy in Spy was.... not what I wanted). Just don't replace Bond with a female. Create a new series with a woman. Point of No Return, La Femme Nikita, Salt... There are some good movies with female bad asses already.

I'm not really against this, but this there some sort of moratorium on new ideas? They can't make a spin-off in the same universe with a different character, one that makes more sense to be a woman? There are 9 options for 00 agent numbers.

P.S. Melissa McCarthy is terrible in everything. Anne Hathaway was pretty cool as Agent 99 in Get Smart, or Uma Thurman as Emma Peel in The Avengers.

And when she has a fling with a male side character called Harry Dick Anballs, will we, the helpless men, be able to cry from the rooftops.........???.......wait what is the opposite of misogyny?

That would be misandry.

As for Gillian as Bond...I love Gillian Anderson, always have since X-Files and beyond. But I just don't see it really. Nothing to do with it being a woman, I just don't know that she fits the role. Especially if it's supposed to be this crazy free-running fist fighter like in the Craig movies.

A sister series based on another agent who happened to be female would actually be killer, in my opinion. James Bond isn't the only agent working for MI6. I think Rebecca Ferguson from MI: Rogue Nation would be perfect for that.

I know this is just a wacky rumor, but man I'd love to see a female Bond. The butthurt would be unreal, and it would be a fresh take on a pretty tired concept.

I stopped watching when they put that new kid in charge of the non existing gadgets, fuck that kid.

James Bond isn't just a male character, he is one of the ultimate male characters in movie history. He's an icon of masculinity. As such, the character is a perfect target for feminists to deconstruct/destroy.

Along with that, he's also one of the ultimate misogynist characters as well. Other than M and sometimes Moneypenny, he has basically no respect for women, uses them and frequently they die as a result of him sticking his dick in them. So yeah, I can see him being a "target".

Don't get me wrong, I love Bond films, but he is who he is.

Kate Beckinsale is singularly the most perfect and beautiful being ever created by the universe in all of human history. Ever. Thank you and yes, I'm ronery. :D
