I have two of these fanless cards in Crossfire.

GIGABYTE GV-R485MC-1GI

I got them because they are absolutely quiet and have decent performance.

In my SilverStone case they idle and load as below.

Top card 31c idle, 55c load-

Bottom card 47c idle, 70c load-

Obviously the close proximity of the top card to the bottom is heating it up.

If you want a fanless quiet cool card, this would be the one. If you run Crossfire the bottom card will be warmer. I'd imagine they would do very well in a case like a Cooler Master HAF too. Don't stick them in a case with questionable airflow and expect them to excel.

BTW my load temps I am reporting are from three hours of playing AoC @ 1920x with 8xAA|16xAF, bloom enabled, full shadows, max ground quality detail radius, SM 3, and the rest set to "high".

I have one of those cards but without the HDMI and I wasn't impressed by the cooling at all. I went from a screaming 3870 to pipping hot 4850 that imho wasn't worth the investment and well here's the kicker, I upgraded my ram and when I re-install the card it's DEAD. It's getting sent out tomorrow for RMA and when I get it back I'm gonna have to go with after market cooling because the damn thing idles @ 70c.

You got a defective card, poor airflow in your case, or both. There is nothing wrong with the cooling on these cards.

Yeah, "passive" just means you use a fan that's not bolted to the card. You're still going to need serious airflow over these cards.

riiiight

let's see here, I have 3x 120mm case fans , excellent wire management , a relatively cool tempered office and the card increases all of my internal components by 7-11c. I don't see how the card could be defective when I functions properly it's just too damn hot.

Maybe the defect is the concept of the card being able to run @ default speeds with the passive cooler they place on it.

Could be mis-seated, could be a bad core, could be a airflow. You said it raised the temp of everything in your case by 7-11 degrees? Thats a indisputable sign that your case needs better airflow.

and..
I upgraded my ram and when I re-install the card it's DEAD

Who the hell takes out their video card to seat new ram?
