If you are looking for something to stick an AMD AM3+ processor into, you might want to check out this review of the GIGABYTE GA-990X Gaming SLI motherboard today. Aside from the platform showing its age, the crew at Vortez had a lot of nice things to say about this board.

Although missing out on the RGB goodness that has been unveiled by GIGABYTE recently, the latest line of G1 Gaming motherboards for the AM3+ platform introduces various new standards to the aging chipset including an M2 slot with a 20Gb/s transfer rate, as well as 2x USB 3.1 ports.

I find the use of PCI completely irrelevant and useless nowadays. In that aspect, GIGABYTE does really suck. I have the GA-990FX and thank God it does not come with that.

But I also bought this weekend the GIGABYTE GA-Z170M-D3H and it comes with two PCI slots, for what? For what GiGABYTE, for what?

Other than that, my 990FX is a great motherboard.
Will be building the HTPC with weekend with the Z170.

Why don't they release a board using 990FX rather than 990X as a refresh.

Not a huge fan of this board. Mainly because of the bios layout, and how horribly laggy it is.
