"gif" pronounciation

GIF porn, korpse? Is that... uhm... really worth watching at all?

It was in 1990, lol.

But on a serious note, I've been saying GIF with a "J" sound since probably about 1990, and back then everybody said it that way. Somewhere along the line since some people started using the hard "G" sound...

It may have been called Jif at one point in time, until somebody realized that gifs don't show jraphics. It's been said before, but I'll say it again to throw another voice on the hard g side: jif is a peanut butter, gif is a graphic format.

Graphics Interchange Format is what it stands for, and is therefore an acronym

G.I.F, how would you say that?

definatly not jif

for jif is lemon juice

u crazy f00ls, lol

these are the rules of the english language,

enough said

most people in america seem to thing colour has no U

How dare you all use common sense when arguing over pronounciation. :)

Say the following words aloud:
cough
tough
though
through

I have a friend whose last name is McGough, so how exactly am I supposed to say her name?

How about these:
read
read
lead
lead

:p

I used to call it jif, but heard many others pronounce it gif, so thats how I pronounce it now.

I taught myself to say it. It was always 'gh'. Now that I have seen this thread though. Saying 'dj' sounds really stupid. I could argue that 'gh' is correct english. However, I think it's much more important that you don't sound like an idiot. Say gif and jif out loud and see which one makes you sound like a babbling 3 year old.
