I've been getting an error on a couple programs today (on a brand new install of Windows 8 btw), "The application was unable to start correctly"..., error code 0xc7b. It's happened with Origin and Corsair Headset Control Panel, but not with Steam, Chrome, etc. I would prefer to not reinstall again because I've finally finished updating.

Clone your drive onto another one and see if it works any better.

That's free to use... I've used it MANY times just to do the clone, then uninstall(it's an annoying piece of software.)

I'd run a chkdsk /R <Drive_letter>: on your OS drive to make sure you don't have any bad sectors even if things are OK for now. It will take quite a while to complete.
If chkdsk wouldn't complete without being run multiple times and no bad blocks are found, I'd also run the Windows memory test.
These Windows 7 steps still apply for checking memory on Windows 8.x:

Chkdsk not completing or failing with an error, but instead just hanging, is a BAD sign.
