Ive been thinking about getting rid of my desktop and upgrading my laptop (all i ever use) and going with something like this http://www.gen-x-pc.com/note_5950.htm. is anyone familiar with gen-x-pc? I know this is the same model as the alienware mALX (although its $1500 cheaper) but, i have never heard of the company. Right now the only thing holding me back is the lack of a dual-core proc. (anyone know if they are upgadeable? same for video?)

Much better option. Dell 1705 17" With core Duo, 7900GS and 7900GTX upgradeable, best of all 1300$ and 3 hours of battery with lite net surfing :)

I bought a 17 inch AMD FX-60 Dual Core laptop (http://www.gen-x-pc.com/note_C9750.htm) with the nVidia 7800 GTX from gen-x-pc and they were knowledgeable and easy to deal with. Smooth transaction. I just found out that I can upgrade to the 7900 GTX card without buying a new laptop. They will send me the 7900 and I can swap it out myself. But more to the point the 5950 you are looking at is a 19 inch SLI laptop so I don't see where Dell suggestion is even in the ball park. Of course I'm NOT a Dell  fan and even less of one now that they bought out Alienware.

Thanks for the update, looks like im just waiting to see if clevo will be installing the turino x2s in it when they are released (supposedly the begining of june?) then ill be ordering one. i dont have a problem with dells (in fact thats what i recommend to most non-gamers), but you are right, that one isnt even in the same ball park

that is not like the mALX

it uses GO 7800GTX whereas the mALX is using 2 7900's

If you read the entire post we are talking about both the Dual Core AMD X2 7900 GTX (http://www.gen-x-pc.com/note_C9750.htm) and the SLI with Turion 7800 GTX SLI (http://www.gen-x-pc.com/note_5950.htm) which is also available with 2 7900 GTX cards from gen x pc and probably every other Clevo Reseller. I understand that the Turion X2 will be available in the model 5950 in a month or so. Alienware gets their laptops fron Clevo so it's the same freaking thing except you're not paying MORE for the name, fancy lights and putting MORE $$$ in Michael (I wanna be as rich as Bill Gates) Dell bank account.

wow buddy comming out with guns blazing are we?

theres more to buying an alienware than fancy lights although i doubt explaining it would make any impact on someone with a skull as thick as yours.

i don't however think it should cost as much as it does

Clevo is also coming out with an nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX with 512MB and nVidia Quadro 2500M 512MB video card in the AMD X2 laptop and the Pentium 4 laptop. Available after July 5th. Alienware is taking orders for the 512MB video card too but no delivery before 3 to 4 weeks.

Athlon X2 or FX-60

http://www.gen-x-pc.com/note_C9750.htm

Pentium 4 LGA775

http://www.gen-x-pc.com/note_C9890.htm

I think they are taking orders now. I'm going to upgrade to the 7900 GTX 512MB video card and install it myself. Edit: Already ordered it ...cheaper than buying a new laptop everytime I get hungry for more power.
