Just got myself an older Alienware M18x running i7-2730QM with GeForce 460M:

I upgraded RAM to 32GB, single GPU performance for
-l4d2
-cs: source

max quality running 1080p stutters, SLI disabled, latest drivers. the only other thing i can think of is to re-seat CPU.

I'm comparing this to my work laptop, which is a Lenovo W540 running i7-4800MQ, 32GB RAM running Quadro K1100M:

based on purely specs... the 460M should blow 1100M out of the waters. yet I can turn on max settings 1080p on both l4d2 and cs:source without any issues.

there are other games, same behaviors... anything that requires GPUs, the 1100 will chew through anything that i throw against it.... (older games now)

but with 460M, there are stutters even on 800x600 minimal...

Windows 7x64 on both.

somn is wrong... any thoughts?

Yeah, those really should have similar performance, with the GK107 being slightly faster.

This is why I hate the idea of gaming on laptops for the long haul. As they age, troubleshooting them becomes a pain.

I'd maybe point to the extra half gig ram, but you said it even happens at 800x600.

Would you be interested in a mobile 560ti? I have one I pulled out of my Clevo and it has been sitting in a static bag every since. Shoot me a PM, it could be yours for a song!;)

the only thing possible is cpu thermal goop is badly worn.

i've yet to reseat all the processors
