Gaming router?

wow... i never thought that even the networking company would jump on the "gaming" bandwagon.... it they do anyting to make gaming better they prob just open up the ports that the most popular games run on so they pass through faster.... the thing that bothers me about that is though is that people spend way to much time screwing with there lil router when its the 30 or 40 hops that is needed to get to the server they are gaming on.....

it looks like a router that has QoS optimised for games, while giving lower priorty to http and p2p traffic

It's going to be related, and using similar technology (engine), to this device here from Hawking...

http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/productlist.php?CatID=36&FamID=80&ProdID=216

We got a demo unit (of the Hawking) over at Speedguide.Net, Philip and Bouncer are reviewing/analyzing it, peeling into the workings of the stream engine, and will have a review published soon.

It basically appears to be a QoS/prioritizing engine. Wether it will help your online pings much...well, if you're the only user on the network and all you're doing is gaming..then not much. Yet if you're on a busy network, and someone else in the house is hitting your internet connection hard...so you're both "competing" for availalbe bandwidth and taxing your connection hard...then it will help a little bit.

Also wether your ISP respects your QoS at the headend (should be happening more and more as more ISPs offer VoIP) ...else it'll simply be ignored.

Roommates downloading pr0n comes to mind.

I bought the wired version of that router about a week ago, it was def a big improvement over my old linksys, and it has waaay more options.
