I checked out Newegg's monitor selection and there are lots of great lcd's. But, seeing as I've been gaming on a crt monitor for a long time and always been skeptical about LCD's always hearing about ghosting or other issues. I'm looking to spend between $200-450 on a monitor. I want it atleast 24" since thats what I'm using now, and I only see LCD's at 1920x1080, do they not make 1920x1200 resolution? I dont know anything about each brand, but it would be nice to hear about some of the monitors, and get some good recommendations for me to check out.

I'd check out that sticky thread above if I were you. Especially if you're going from CRT to an LCD monitor and you're not really sure how the technology works.

16:10 displays have become less and less popular unfortunately. Monitors and TVs are growing ever closer to each other and 16:9 has become the main aspect ratio of choice. Possibly related to the 1920x1080 "full HD" hype.

Acer G245H is probably one of the best TN's you can get. Read my Review and monitor comparisons

Other Wise get an IPS panel like the Dell U2311, it's only 23" but is one of the best monitors you can buy (if you get a good unit). Remember Picture Quality>Inch or 2 of size

Then how would the G245H compare to the GD245HQ?
The G245H is slightly bigger but the GD245HQ has the 120Hz advantage.

Is the GD245HQ the same display as the GD235HZ listed on the .us website?

GD245HQ (Europe) and GD235HZ (NA) are the some monitor. The 120hz monitor would be faster than the G245H, as far as I can tell from reviews the color/contrast performance is very close between the 2 (G245H has a glossy screen), however the 120hz model costs a lot more. If you are only PC gaming or want to watch 2D-3D converted movies via Power DVD10/3D gaming I would invest in a 120hz monitor, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the Acer. Also some people on here have had problems with the Acer so I would read the big thread first.

Here are your 120hz options

I own the following:
Sony FW900
Dell 2209wa
Samsung 2233rz

The Dell 2209wa is an IPS panel, but 60hz with or without vsync is unbearable for FPS gaming when coming from such a quality CRT. With vsync enabled you get a huge increase in input lag and without it the tearing is abysmal. Colours and viewing angles are great, but these cheap IPS panels without a polarizer suffer from very poor blacks. If you don't play FPS games and are happy to run at 60hz with vsync on, an IPS panel is worth considering. Otherwise...

I recently purchased the Samsung 2233rz to replace my dying Sony FW900. It's response time isn't perfect (the new generation of 120hz monitors should be faster) and it has all the flaws found in TN panels, but overall I'm happy with it as an FPS gaming monitor. Once calibrated it's a very nice monitor and much easier on my poor eyes than the fuzzy CRT.

Personally I'd recommend looking at the new 120hz monitors NCX has listed above for FPS gaming.

The Alienware apparently costs a hefty penny. I'm seeing it at +/- €500 and that's just too much for a 23" TN panel in my opinion.

The LG seems to be similar but "not as good as" the Acer. That leaves the Asus and the Acer... and for some reason nobody is selling the Asus.

Regarding IPS, I have been looking at the Dell U2311H as well. It's cheaper than the Acer and according to the reviews I've read it's a quality display. I just worry it won't be responisve enough for FPS games.

The Alienware is exspensive, they were one sale a couple of weeks ago, just as the Surround drivers came out and I got them at $450USD a piece. VERY happy with them. Yes there are TN panels of course and have the same problems with viewing angles and color shifing as all TN panel monitors have but they are VERY bight and sharp and no input lag at all that I can detect. Solid 120Hz panel, can't go wrong with it for gaming.
