Is gaming at 1280x1024 CPU or GPU dependent?

graphics card memory dependent. 256mb would be enough for that resolution. shoot im running games at 1680x1050 on a 128mb hd2400 pro but on games like counterstrike

you also dont want to have a extreme video card with a not so extreme processor because that wouldnt allow the video card to perform at its potential.

All GPU, but you also need a fast CPU to keep up with the GPU.
