i just watched sin city and i found myself almost watching those cut scenes in max payne. That one scene at the VERY BEGINNING, with harnett holding the chick, WAS TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM THE MAX PAYNE 2 COVER

I guess I'll point out the obvious and assume that you meant to ask in your point what games would make great movies...

In my opinion I would love to see a Metroid based movie. Hot chick, have plasma beam, will travel!!

Of course that could always spawn a great pron movie!! I mean, morph ball, some hot action..hmm! :D

A movie based on the Ultima games, or perhaps an Ultima Online saga (back in the old days).

I think he had a heart attack before he could finish his post, his last action was accidently hitting "Enter" and posting...

Anyways, there is no movie that could make a good game, it just doesnt work. and vice versa

True dat.

But I would still love to see a good version of Splinter Cell on the big screen.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.... Oh wait, they already have a movie... or rather, 6 of them!

Sorry, I had to. ;)

Yeah, but KotOR is much better than that crap that Lucas vomitted out in Episodes I and II.

I think Raiders of the Lost Ark using the Source engine would rock.

But the question was the inverse...The Half-Life Trilogy

It's a movie cliché from the early 1900's. They didn't invent it.

Also, Sin City was a comic book (specifically a graphic novel) long before Max Payne was a thought.

I'd say Metal Gear Solid, but they'd do away with the kooky bosses in favor of generic-looking bad guys in black trenchcoats. The story would suffer pretty badly also.

There really aren't many videogames that could translate well to movies, partially because Hollywood loves screwing things up. Example: Doom.

A movie based on MYST would be cool. Maybe not the games, but if the movie were based around the books... :D

I thought the SiFi channle was going to do something like that at one point, what happened?

The Splinter Cell Rights have been purchased and will be made into a movie soon. There was an article on it somewhere.

Yeah IGN had thsi big thing about how Splinter Cell and Rainbow6 movies are both done pre-production (scripts, etc.). And then there is also a movie coming out based on just John Clark (The commander in R6) and a new Jack Ryan movie (the hunt for the red october/sumofallfears/patriotgame guy).

Theres an old DOS game called BIO-Forge that would have made a great movie. The game was rich with story and just plain fun.

Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 would make great movies if done right. But I don't see ILM and Lucas making a Star Wars movie outside the whole Anakin/Luke storyline.

Would be sweet for some spinoff movies as the universe has many possibilities.

Half-Life would be a poor movie. There's not enough movie elements in the game to actually make it interesting. The story isn't that deep and the frequency with which you encounter the story aspect of the game is not very often. Just because blowing up headcrab after headcrab is fun doesn't mean it will translate well into a movie.

For example, some people disliked how Jackson changed some of the LotR for the movies. Some of it, I agree, should have been left in. However, other parts were a good idea to change. An hour of dialogue works better in a book than in a movie.

A "Codename 47" movie would be great comprised of all 3 soon to be 4 Hitman games. If not a series of movies. There was talk of Hitman movie in the works..

"Nascar: Chase for the Cup" movie... nah they done that already with "Days of Thunder"..

"18 Wheels of Steel: Across America" movie... nah they kinda did that with Smokey & the Bandit 1, 2, & 3..

"Second Sight" movie.. hmm, Ive seen a few movies like this, but I wouldnt mind another...

Sorry I gotta say it... a "GTA series" of movies based on all the games.. You start as low smash & grab petty crook Tommy 1, 2, 3... by VC (4) your in the bigtime out of joint, making your way to the top.. In SA (5) we learn of a old rivial "Carlos" has just gotten out..

:p :)

the pac-man cartoon was SWEET !!! Whould have made a great movie. :p

Most games that are deep enough in story to warrant a movie, are too deep to be packed into a 2-3 hour film. I think some games desere a book (and vice-versa).

I think half-life could translate well into a trilogy series of movies...it'd definitely be better than the Matrix movies. It would require massive revisions to the plot to adapt to the silver screen...the purity geeks would declare war :)

Games that might translate to good movies:

X-COM (better as a miniseries)
Splinter Cell (I disliked the game because it's too much like a movie)

Games that could have made great movies but didn't:

Resident Evil (the game was a bunch of wasted potential, too)
Super Mario Brothers
Wing Commander

They are going to make a movie about Halo. But I don't think it will be directly taken from the game.

I have not heard anything about a Splinter Cell movie, but I doubt that they would use Tom Cruise or Ben Affleck. You'd need someone older. Although... Well, no... Tom Cruise looks too stupid with grey hair.

KotoR was based 400-some odd years before the happenings of Star Wars. So it wasn't based off of the movie, but just the general idea of the Jedi vs. Sith. I think that instead of Lucas making Star Wars VII, and on, when he runs out of money he will just make something kind of based off of the KotoR series. But that's just my opinion.

Resident Evil: Apocolypse I found quite good, but that's just my opinion. And that's based off of the Resident Evil w/ Nemesis in it.

I just finished Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory. And it unolocked the Movie Teaser. Not much there besides Sam just sitting there turning on his NV. But it is in the game. I'm not sure if the Teaser was there in the extra's menu or not before I finished the game . I only noticed it now. Anyway, it's coming.

again to reemphasize my first post, does anyone else think sin city's atmosphere etc is based off max payne's? i mean the whole deal with the lone cop shooting the hell out of everyone, the black and white cut scenes, and the monotonous soliloquys

somebody already said that it was a comic long before max payne was made. Aside from that Max Payne already borrowed heavily from detective/cop movies and TV from the 50's and 60's. Nothing about the visual style is new.

I have not seen Sin City yet. But I do think that Max Payne would make a good movie. The only problem is, it would have to be very very well done. Because it would be knocked for being a Matrix wannabe. And the fact that it would followed Sin City. The Comic Book/ Film Noir style would be chastised for being a Sin City Rip off also. So basically it would have to be very well written and have top notch actors for it to be pulled off.

A World class Super Nintendo game...................Shadowrun. Perfect movie material.

Xenogears!

but it would have to be like a 24 hour long movie to cover everything
24 hours? Try 1 week. And people would walk away wondering what the hell had really happened.

I loved the game, don't get me wrong, but god damn was that thing long and complex. You'd need a funny little guy to explain things to you during the intermissions ( I'm picturing a moogle here. Feel free to be creative ), and a fucking pad of paper to make notes on.

be cool if they had a super mario brothers movie.

or atleast a sequel...
that princess was hot

Duke Nukem 3D.. Could be a great movie.. I mean, he has the greatest one liners is the gameing industry imho.. "Your face your ass, what's the difference", "I'm sending you and the whole damn species straight to hell".. "I'm gonna rip your head off and shit down the hole" and then actually do just that.. It would have to be nc17 at the minimum to even be close to good..

Time for me to fire up the win98 c300a system and get back to an old favorite..

U.S. Version Final Fantasy III . (FF 6 in Japan)

One word : EPIC

DOOM would make a good movie, there was a book series out awhile back.

Day of Defeat would make an awesome movie....oh wait, they already did.

and....the most amazing epic world changing movie ever ....:

SOLTAIRE!!!

I don't think they should make a sequel to the Super Mario Bros. movie... It would just put it in the hole even more. Or if they even made another Super Mario Bros. movie, it should be animated.

Movie made game (game(s) being not half bad) was TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). Good fun when I was a youngster.

I want to see a Zelda movie. And they show him grow up from kid to adult too. (Non-animated) It could hurt the franchise in the eyes of true gamers, but people would brush it off their shoulder, and still buy the games.
