The most dubious and least coveted title in all of TV land goes to HBO’s Game of Thrones for being the most pirated of all shows on TV for the third consecutive year, leaving the other ranked shows in the dust. It will be interesting to follow the rankings next year after HBO's stand-alone subscription App goes live in 2015.

Online streaming and downloads for file-hosting services are not included since there are no public sources to draw data from. Total piracy numbers will therefore be significantly higher.

Curious as to what is the main reason for this, is it pirated because it's that popular? because it's only on HBO? because they delay when shows come out and when they're actually viewable in any particular area (specifically other countries since one of the articles mentioned within the first 12 hours 1.5M downloads were done)? Some combo of all 3?

Also it'd be interesting to see where most of the piracy comes from too, is this cheap Americans? or cheap other peoples?

I'd say so, take a look at: http://www.imdb.com/search/title?num_votes=5000,&sort=user_rating,desc&title_type=tv_series

Breaking Bad - Ratings: 9.5/10 from 597,293 users
Game of Thrones - Ratings: 9.5/10 from 685,159 users
Planet Earth - Ratings: 9.5/10 from 73,135 users
The World at War - Ratings: 9.4/10 from 6,338 users
The Wire - Ratings: 9.4/10 from 141,403 users
True Detective - Ratings: 9.3/10 from 185,191 users
Sherlock - Ratings: 9.3/10 from 329,123 users
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver - Ratings: 9.3/10 from 6,250 users
The Sopranos - Ratings: 9.3/10 from 142,270 users
Rick and Morty - Ratings: 9.2/10 from 15,623 users

That's A LOT of users consistently giving it a high rating.

I don't get why it's such a great show. I mean, unless you're a kinda lonely guy, there's really nothing amazing or interesting about it at all.

Also, OMG how do you even remember your forum ID and type that in every single time you log in?

I'd say it's a popular show that appeals to the young techy demographics that are more inclined to use torrents.

Looking at the top 10, GoT, TWD, TBBT, Gotham, Arrow, Vikings and South Park all would appeal to that group. HIMYM and Grey's Anatomy also have a young audience in general. Many of these shows are from broadcast channels and/or easily accessible through streaming and short-delay episode purchase.

I found GoT and BB to be boring shows. I'm guessing people who watch GoT don't know internet porn exist where you don't have to settle for shitty A-cup nipple.

It does have a lot of "boring parts" (too much dialogue for me, needs more action and less drama imo) but the production value (and acting) is top notch. Feels like you're watching a Hollywood movie every episode.

Haha, it's my old AIM handle that I created in the 7th grade. It's just "darkreaper" with a 3 instead of an 'e', and xx's, and a dot com at the end. Not sure why I added that last part to the end of it but oh well, no turning back!

I'm waiting for it to be released on Blu-Ray. I own the previous seasons already.

I read the books. It might be why I love the series.

I started with the books. Kept falling asleep...even Dr. Suess puts me to sleep though. :D

I love the series and grabbed the audio books. I enjoy the character voices!

George RR Martin created a good universe, and isn't afraid to kill off characters that we love.

HODOR!

My wife and I both watch the show together. We usually do not have similar tastes.
Prior to that, we watched Dexter, Chuck, King of Queens - not too many others.

The only on HBO thing makes it really inaccessible. A lot of countries don't have HBO and it can be quite expensive. My TV provider requires at least a $66/month bill to get HBO because you need to buy an additional $20 package to get HBO.
