My HTPC isn't all that compared to everyone else's on this thread, but I did manage to squeeze it into a Pioneer DVD case. Maybe someone will find that interesting...

You can also see how I built it using this link at byopvr...

(The HTPC is what looks like a DVD player above my receiver)

Hehe, considering I have a rear projection box instead of a plasma, whatever it is that I am doing it, I could do better :p

And foofighter06, that stand looks amazing, really gives your setup that modernized yet classy look. Props man.

Btw, how you liking those speakers in terms of power? Can you shake up the house?

Thanks man. The Sub can really rattle the floor. I believe it's an 8" down firing ported sub. Not the biggest, but for the size of the system it sounds pretty nice. To me the center channel isn't as loud as I would like for it to be. I'm thinking about trying to get the center channel out of the floor, and sit it on top of the cable box. Dialogue in movies seems to be a lil' hard to understand at times, but then again my hearing isn't the best in the world. I actually think the speakers sound better for music than I do movies though. Using the Optical out on the shuttle makes mp3's and audio cd's sound terrific. The DVD player with that came with the Samsung HTIB doesn't seem to play DVD's or music cd's as loud as the Shuttle can play music through the system. I'm thinking about just playing all DVD's through the shuttle to see if they are louder that way.

Overall I like the setup though.

Thanks..... The TV is 42" and I have it in my 12X12 den so anything bigger would just be too much

Finally got a decent digital camera, so here are some pics!

closer up of the rack

specs:
Sony 50" XBR Grand Wega, KF-50XBR800
Yamaha RXV-1 receiver
Mirage Speakers all around.
OM-C2 front center, OM-C3 rear center, OM 10's up front, an LF-150 sub, and OM-R2's for the rears
A Pioneer Elite DV-47Ai DVD player, progressive scan of course
A Samsung HDTV terrestrial receiver
An SA HDTV cable box
A ReplayTV 4000 series with a self upgraded 250 gig drive, one of two I have had since they came out.

And of course the HTPC:
Abit IS-10 motherboard
Ati Radeon 9600 Pro with component dongle
160 gig OS drive, everything is on a server now, although I used to use this for local storage
Lite-On DVD-Rom drive
enclosed in a spiffy Antec Aria case
It drives the Sony at a comfortable 1776x1000
I'm using the onboard sound as it has an optical output.

I currently use a Logitech wireless set to control it. Once Meedio fixes there DD/DTS issue I'll switch to that and use my Niveus PC remote.

Hmm, how is your DVD connected to the receiver? If it is a digital connection then volume level should not really matter, just crank it up high enough to hear hehe.

I dislike listening to any music on my shuttle, since in the back of my head I think that the Shuttle fan makes noise, noise = bad. In reality though, I just close the window, and I cant hear it at all, and WindowsMedia player with visualisations on to full screen makes it really cool, kinda like club scene with the lights dimmed :D :p

valve1138, what is that outlet on the lower right, beside the speaker? Looks like speaker terminals.
Also, 9600pro, no Xbox, no PS2, no consoles. Do you just watch movies? :p

Machz, is the number 10 or number 6 on those winston cup car models below your tv?

Cause if it's a 6 you just found out why i gots a 6 after my name.

and t10 the DVD player is part of the whole HTiB system. So it's got it's own cable to carry the sound. It's not a standard type cable.

That would be #6 for Martin ;)

valve, why not lay the center speaker on the top of the screen? it can only help the dialogue.

I used to with one of those VCR shelves that mount to the top of TV's. Then it fell off the back one day and sheared off the jacks mounted in the wall. The problem is the top of the TV is only about 4 or 5 inches wide, and that center channel is deep and heavy.

I have yet to come up with an attractive way to mount it back up there.

Someday it will return to it's rightful place.

you can use a mountkit on walls or there is a company that makes mounting center speakers on top of flat panels... the name escapes me but there is one or two companies that offer it.

I considered that, but the TV is too far out from the wall to make it attractive. I'm owned by the shape of the TV.

I do have a plan that I will someday enact. I will make a stand to go over the TV, and I will place the center channel on that plus additional components to get rid of the rack to the left which I want to use elsewhere.

It's actually not that bad with the center channel below the TV like that, although not a clear sounding with it on top.

the setup. mitsubishi 52725 52" HD DLP. P4 3.0 ghz, 1gb ram, 400gb hd, radeon 9800 pro, chaintech av710, and Media Center 2005.

edit: to the right between the speaker and tv is going to be a dvd stand with dvds.

I wonder if the inside of your HTPC is about as clean as your Lian Li case. ;)

Pretty close actually.. :) I think i might have an obsesive compolsive :D the only thing that lets it down is the 2 ribbon cables instead of having sata. The hard drive and DVD are in ackward spots..

Might post a picture of it over in Rate my cables..

You should, :)

I think i might have an obsesive compolsive
Join the club, you should see the looks my GF gives me when I start talking about her cables and how crappy they look. :)

Currently I'm rebuilding her PC rebuilding and she thinks I'm nuts for getting my little sister to braid the cables on her PSU (just the easy four pin molex plugs) and thats just for starters. ;)

She'e even now starting to make obsessive complosive jokes because of it. LOL

I guess this might disqualify me as a N00b
