I have a GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard with a Corsair 650W power supply, both are new.

what happens, is i turn it on, and the power cycles infinitely.
if i take out the 8 pin power, then it works (but i turn it off quick, to avoid damage)is this due to a defective power supply, or more likely the motherboard? I dont want to send the wrong thing back!

The only other thing of note is that it was working for about a week since originally built, then i turned it off, when i turned it back on this started happening.

EDIT: i remembered i had another PSU, i tried it and it does the same thing.

EDIT: tried again outside of the case, same thing. I guess its back to the trusty old P6T!

could be many things id call support for you mobo and see what they say, sounds like you need to rma the mobo!

Can also be the CPU, as it is not powered up if you don't have the 8-pin power connector connected.

Call tech support for the mobo and they will walk you through some easy steps to test it and even issue an RMA afterwards. Never dealt with Gigabytes tech support so this might be easier said than done.
