As I see it, these are the options if you want higher refresh rate/smoother play. I'm not thinking about overclocking IPS panels and all that. Pretty basic.

The pricing on Free sync options is speculation, assuming your current monitor can't do it.

Also, if you plan on upgrading your current monitor w/ the G-sync board, just select G-sync monitor. Effect is the same.

I like the imaginary prices for imaginary monitors with unreleased technology, where is the vote for that?

So ignore the prices - what's the plan Stan?

I could select the 60hz option as I already have a nice 120hz screen, personally I'll wait until I can see *sync in person before I buy one.

Ugh. Wish I would've said 60/120hz.

BTW, something I just saw kinda scares me.. the G-sync mod voids the Asus warranty. :\

Open standards, all the way. If AMD can do it based off of an existing standard, why should Nvidia have to charge me for an extra part, and on top of that, lock it to their video cards?

I'm waiting until there are 120Hz 1080p projectors available. I'm going to buy 3 of those and enough graphics cards to push them at 120fps. The cost of my plan is pretty atrocious.

Then you can Family Sync; tell your family when they can walk in front of your projectors.

I already have a GTX 780 and a G-Sync capable monitor...decision is easy for me...Freesync obviously. :D

I'm going to ...

A) Wait for both solutions to be released and/or thoroughly tested and compared

And then

B) Wait for a manufacturer to release a monitor that supports the best tech and isn't a shitty TN 1080p panel.

If you're going to assume that freesync is an actual technology that will come to market in a time frame remotely comparable to gsync, you might as well just assume AMD is going to hand out free lamborghinis with each purchase of a Radeon R9 290X starting next week. So in that case, I'll buy AMD.

g-sync is useless to me since i most likely wont be owning an nvidia gpu for a few years. and by then i would think freesync will be out.

So we are voting for either an available technology or a tech demo with no confirmed plans of ever being released?

I'm waiting for a 2650x1600 IPS panel that has either one, hopefully higher than 60hz, but I'd live with it either way.

I already own a 2560x1600 monitor but would gladly sell it for a 1440p 27' 120+ hz Gsync monitor. Gsync seems like it's an available product while free sync isn't even out yet.

When I next upgrade my display it will be the open standard, as long as it works well.
But thats likely to be 3+ years.

At least with all this noise, it's showing monitor makers, that consumers are interested in a product from both camps. can wait for dp1.3

I also use a tn in my other room and sometimes play games on it. I'm not a huge fan of it but it doesn't bother me too much. If I can get smooth gameplay at high resolution and not get stuttering like I do on my 30" then I'm all for it. I don't care about how it looks when looking at the picture on an angle as I will be staring directly at it. Plus TN panels have faster response times.

I'm gonna stick my neck out and guess that TN will be better than pretty much any ever made. I doubt it'll be capable of miraculous deep deep contrast but I bet it will have better color performance and shading than any of the current gaming TNs on the market.

Ofcourse Gsync since Freesync is not even on desktop monitors (atleast from what I read when they demo-ed it). lol

I prefer to keep to one PC and thus the Rog monitor isn't well rounded enough for me.
With a 27inch and a 24 inch cintiq I don't have enough room to play with.

Too much clutter as it is.
It seems great for people really into gaming though(hence the brand I guess)

I would never buy a monitor that only works on 1 graphics card makers cards.

FreeSync all the way.

thats assuming nvidia would embrace freesync, in their eyes they would only embrace g-sync because to them it would be counter productive to accept a standard that would undermine their proffits.

This. Free-Sync hasn't yet been demonstrated in a real monitor with a full gaming GPU because it'd require the same kind of hardware that's in G-Sync, at the very least.

Screw all of that. 60fps on an IPS monitor is all I need. TN's view angle bothers me too much

G-sync monitor works like normal display on not supported gpu.

Anyway i won't be buying new display until end of 2013 at least so there's plenty of time.

Short throw projectors with 36" screens. My current projectors sit 22" from the screens. Hasn't been an issue so far :)

aww... you can overclock a korean 27" lcd and get 96-120hz AND have great viewing angles with samsung PLS (akin to IPS)

G-Sync since FreeSync appears to be several years away at the earliest. By that time who knows what GPU's will be in the lead.

G-Sync actually exists and is being produced. FreeSync is a theory. Which is a shame since I like FreeSync's estimated pricing.

Either way you'd have to buy a new monitor at the minimum if not a new graphics card that support DP 1.3 to use it.

Indeed, no more TN panels for me either... I'll wait.

Kinda like driving a horse & buggy in the middle of a Lamborghini race.
