fx53 vs a64 4000+

The fx has unlocked upwards multiplier.

From what i understand there is no other difference between the fx-53 and 4000+.

FX55 uses strained silicon "These changes stem from two factors: one is the FX-55's higher clock speed and two is the fact that AMD is now using strained silicon-on-insulator technology to manufacture the FX-55.

Using strained silicon modifies the electrical properties of transistors to increase their performance. " http://www.hothardware.com/viewarticle.cfm?articleid=592&cid=1

while you're right, this is about the fx-53 and 4000+

the 4000+ is just an fx-55 that didn't make the 2.6ghz cut.. it has sSOI just like it's big brother. by spec, the only differences between the fx-53 and 4000+ are strained silicon (4000+ has it, fx-53 doesn't), and the unlocked upward multi's of the fx-53.
the other more important difference for oc'ers that the fx-53 is generally from the best dies on the wafer, where the 4000+ is normally an fx-55 deject, thus is probably won't oc amazingly well.

The A64 4000+ is not a crippled FX55 or even a FX55 that wouldnt do 2.6ghz and was a defect. It's not even in the same core family as the FX55. The only thing that the 4000+ shares that the FX55 has is 1mg L2 cache andf SOI.(eventually all A64 and FX and dual cores will be SOI) The FX55 even has more on die instructions added to it then anyother chip that AMD has out in the A64 and FX line. (rememer there are even 754 pin A64 chips that have a 1mg cache on the L2 but that doesnt make it related to the FX chip either) The 4000 is a A64 4000.Nothing more nothing less.

Isnt all athlon 64s silicon on insulator (SOI)

The FX55 does not support any instructions over the rest of the AMD 64 family. Read up a little on the chip.
