Fury X, R9 390X or Gtx 980 ti for 4k gaming?

there are plenty of 4K monitors with DP around.

Just not TVs.

You are right. I should have phrased that differently.

What I should have said is "it takes all the most popular 4k screens judging by our forums out of contention".

Even that isn't 100% accurate though. I believe 4:2:2 chroma still works at 4k, but my understanding is you don't want to do desktop work without full 4:4:4 chroma.

0xAF is suspicious as hell.

Some have little or no AA as well. I have a feeling when a reliable site does a full set of benchmarks things won't look so good for them. So much potential flushed down the water cooler.

Yes but whats the point of 4k on a 27 inch monitor? My 30 inch 2560x1600 I cant even see the pixels. Higher resolutions let you sit closer to a bigger screen so why would I want to downgrade to a smaller screen? So i can sit 3 inches from it? Defeats the whole purpose of 4k if you ask me.

4k smaller than 40 inch is really pointless from a DPI standpoint when sitting at a desk

Yeah and no one is buying them! Have you seen how many people are buying 4k TVs on hardforum or OCN just for PC use? I bet it's at least 10 times the customer base of people buying tiny 28 inch 4k computer monitors. App/Program scaling is shit in Windows which is why so many of us would prefer to buy a 40 or 48 inch tv to use it as a monitor.

I've owned 10+ ATI/AMD video cards and only 3 or 4 Nvidia. If AMD is so fucking stupid as to only include HDMI 1.4 on the Fury X then they lost me as a customer. I understand why the 390x doesn't have it, they didn't respin. I'm not even certain I'll buy one of the beautiful new Samsung 4k TVs for PC use but why would I limit myself? The Fury would have to be dramatically faster. Also, I currently own a Korean 110+ hz Qnix with no PWM backlight, no lost frames and dual link DVI that I LOVE and I expect to keep using it. The fact that the 980 TI has DL DVI & HDMI 2.0 and has 6gb of ram is very compelling.

no, its worthless for 4k TVs at 60hz without DP. 30hz is fine.

and cheap ass chinese 1440p monitors with shitty DVI only scalers. If you didnt know DVI was on the way out when you bought that panel, you are stupid.

Very specific usage scenarios

And show me a 4K Monitor (not a TV) without DP, they all have them.

Personally, id like to see HDMI dropped completely.

There are WAAAAY more 4K TVs than there are 4K TVs for ants (monitors).

4K monitor usage is the scenario that is a niche usage scenario.

4K TVs are the new standard for PC gaming displays. Releasing a new GPU without HDMI 2.0 on it is incredibly stupid.

Now I just need to decide what GTX 980 ti to pick up. Don't know whether to go with gigabyte reference (or evga when in stock) or msi gaming 6g.

I had a 28" 4k Samsung and didn't like it. The 40" JU6500 is great, though.

You aren't alone! It's the most popular owners thread on [H] Display forum right now. Sweet jesus, the input lag of your TV is lower than the bulk of 4k computer monitors and people wonder why we are all switching to TVs!

yeah, I keep hearing people complain about the input lag on TV's.

I just ordered a 48" JS9000, which has an input lag of 22ms.

This is lower than any monitor I have owned since the CRT era.

My Dell U3011 is 24ms. My old Dell 2405FPW was 45ms (from what I have found, input lag measurements as part of reviews were less common in 2005 than they are today)

I haven't received the JS9000 yet, but I am sure it will be fantastic. My only worry is that it will be too big.

Seeing people saying there's no 4k monitors larger than 27. I was looking at these the other day and found at least two different brands. Both run at 4k 60hz, I think one I looked at needed two DP cables to do it.

I havent seen that said anywhere, can you point to the places where it was said?

Well for some of us coming from "1600p" 30 inchers a 4k 27 inch isnt really an upgrade. I would want at least 40 inches at 4k and theres nothing that size with a display port. "

There's another comment in this thread and I saw one in another, buuuut, I already wasted my time finding this one.

Why dont you address those 2 people directly?
Its not such a common thing that needs a point made for everyone.

980ti in SLI or the new fury x if drivers prevail. Looks promising, but i guess we'll see

No, I will make a generalized statement as it might, just might benefit the community as a whole to have the information. If you don't like it, please stop replying and ignore it. K thx....

Previously, I was leaning towards thr gtx 980 ti, but the 8gb of vram on the 390x has caught my eye. Which card do you guys think is best?

In just the last year I'm coming from owning 4 7970's ,2 280's , 3 290x's and a pair of 295x2's. Just sold a 295x2 on Ebay a few days ago. http://oi57.tinypic.com/nb6q2q.jpg

Don't buy AMD .. you'll regret it. Drivers are constantly late , new fury doesn't have hdmi 2.0 support and still runs gamework titles like crap with the tech turned off.
I'd much rather have a card that supports the beauty of physx and gameworks enhancements. In other words If I wanted to sacrifice my graphics I'd solely stick to consoles for gaming.
- for 4k ..its Nvidia all the way.

2x 980Ti's or wait for pascal. Fury X only has 4GB no matter how fast it will not be enough for upcoming titles
Plus if you want HDMI 2.0 all GTX900 series have that, Fury X doesnt.

we still have to see if it's really not enough. If the benchmarks show it beats the 980ti in 4K, then one can't bash the 4GB, that would be dumb.

Fury might not have hdmi 2, but the 980Ti does not support adaptive sync DP1.2a .

Well, once I head about the HDMI 1.4a thing, I went out and ordered a 980Ti, and for what it's worth I am VERY happy with it.

I only just popped it in, and did a quick gaming test run.

I turned power up to 110% and temp limit up to 91C, and it boosted to 1329Mhz (!) permanently my entire gaming run.

It's an EVGA ACX 2.0+ model, with a speced oc of +114Mhz over stock, at 1190Mhz, but doing nothing but upping temp and power limits it sat at 1329Mhz the entire time, topping out at 83C and 73% fan.

Can't help but wonder what it will do with some further tweaking!

O hell yea :) Good luck on your overclock on that beast. Would love to see what a EVGA 980ti Hybrid watercooling edition can do with an unlocked bios :) You should get a G10/H55 on the beast

I've been lookig but haven't been able to find the G10 N980 in stock anywhere. :(

That sucks :/ I guess you could go the EVGA route. It is not a bad deal really.

But only if you dont have a CLC already.

Good luck bro. Hope to see some benchmarks if you ever do unlock the beast :)

Unfortunately it looks like they only list the stock cooler models as compatible with the EVGA hybrid. :(

I'll just wait for the HG10 N980 to become available!

I actually ordered a second identical EVGA 980ti, before I received this one, thinking I'd definitely need two, maybe that was a mistake...

The second one hasn't gotten here yet (Newegg, 1 per person limit, so order one, wait 48 hrs, order second)

I could technically get two HG10's but then I'll need to go case shopping :p

(This is starting to get out of hand...)

Aren't all EVGA 980 ti running stock pcb with exception of classified and kingpin ? They even sell ACX cooler for titan X separetly.

Yeah, I think they expect you to harvest the stock fan from the stock cooler to mount it in their hybrid setup.

The older G10 models look like they are the same in this regard.

The newer G10 N980 looks like it comes with all the needed fan parts, and even expliciryl lists compatibility with ACX models (though they reference the 980 part, not the 980ti part, as 980ti wasn't out when they wrote that spec page)

A corsair rep in the corsair forums has confirmed the G10 N980 also fits the 980ti though.

Only problem with it is that I can't find any information stock anywhere!
