Remember, everything in life can be a financial opportunity, even when you are the douchebag. This dude used his wife’s phone to hail Uber rides to a lover, but the app had a glitch where notifications would continue even after logging out, so his wife found out he wasn’t just going out for groceries. The bug seems legit, but did he not have his own phone to call rides with? I bet he even used his wife’s laptop to write dirty e-mails to his mistress.

A businessman in southern France is suing ride-hailing company Uber over his wife's discovery of rides he took to see his lover, his lawyer said. The man says he once requested an Uber driver from his wife's phone. Despite logging off, the application continued to send notifications to her iPhone afterwards, revealing his travel history and arousing her suspicions. The couple have since divorced. The lawsuit is reportedly worth up to €45m ($48m; £38m). "My client was the victim of a bug in an application," his lawyer David-André Darmon told AFP news agency after the case was lodged at a court in Grasse. "The bug has caused him problems in his private life," Mr Darmon added.

Good to see that taking responsibility for ones own mistakes is as endangered a species in France as here. Then again, that is the country where they made DNA testing for paternity illegal to protect a woman's choice to fuck whoever she wants and saddle her husband with ther lover's kids. So maybe they will be in favor of protecting the cheating husband's right to hide his illicit affair over any sort of sense of decency.

The lawsuit is frivolous, he got busted. This wouldn't have happened if he had his own smartphone. If anything, he should only be given $30 USD (the price of Lumia 640 on clearance).

It wouldn't have caused any problems if he didn't cheat.

If the app did something it wasn't supposed to do then I can see the point of the lawsuit. So far all I've heard is "serves him right" and "what a dumbass". But the laws don't work just for nice people. Although I don't know about how it's worth $48 million.

That's probably half his net worth that the wife got in the divorce... :D

Guessing he has a work phonext that is monitored. He got his come uppins and can't handle it like a big boy. Bet he's a pleasure to work with too.

One thing a lot of people do not understand about cheating is that subconsciously most cheaters essentially want to get caught. That is why you constantly shake your head at every cheating story and say I cant believe they did that. The cheater doesn't even understand they are doing it, that is why it is subconcious. And of course the other issue is most cheaters are highly entitled they fully believe that they were wronged and that the cheating they are doing is perfectly justified in their own mind. This story perfectly illustrates both of the those points, he uses his wife's phone to get duties done for cheating. Even if he didn't get caught on this he would just keep getting bolder and bolder till he was caught. Then his entitled attitude leads him to sue he is so entitled and narcissistic he will spill his personal life all over the internet because he really lacks any ability to feel shame. The cheater believes life is unfair to them and that is why their cheating is not really cheating it is simply filling a need that was created by this HARSHLY unfair world. I mean really how could that app do that to me.....

If he got divorced before suing Uber, then I don't think she is entitled to it.

But who knows what crazy socialist laws France might have regarding this.

I thought most French couples were OK with side pieces. For both. Perhaps not all then. Still. 48 million? Good luck my man.

French are like any other people. Having a side piece is perfectly OK for themselves, but not for their spouse. :p

I was going to say the first bit of your response. But that second bit... whoa! France is more screwed up that I thought! I bet he wins this case because... France.

It's fun to poke at the French, but here in the good old USA someone did sue McDonald's because...well coffee is "hot" and burned her lap.

This is everyone's favorite anecdotal comment, but it's patently false. I studied this case in a law class in college.

This link provides some of the facts, but the real truth is that McDonalds was brewing coffee at a significantly higher temperature to save money. (More coffee extracted from the beans). They were supposed to bring it back down to a safer temperature before it was served to patrons.

It also good to poke at the people of the U.S. who like to use only fractional pieces of the information to present a false narrative to smear somebody else.

What an excellent idea! I'll just leave some incriminating evidence on my wifes phone, then I can sue someone else so that the divorce ends up making me money!

Dudes a total Boss.. /s

I have done some really stupid shit in my life. I've been an idiot at times. Not once have I thought I should blame and sue someone else for my dumbass mistakes when I got called out on my idiocy.

I've written some really shitty and dumb posts on HardForum. Kyle - I'm coming for you. Prepare your checkbook! (not serious... I hope that's obvious!). What a BS lawsuit. He got caught. Take your lickings (he hee) as a damn adult. Frenchie fucked up by being an idiot, he needs to admit that.

Next law suit will be text messaging apps that default to group conversation.

Also like with anything, you won't hear about the ones that never get caught. Also the really good ones that it takes a lot of investigating to uncover, won't get any headlines or clicks like the dumb ones would.

I take it that you assume that divorces are the same everywhere.

Well, yea. USA sets the rules. Don't like it? We'll bring democracy to your country.

:)

I still think we should bring back stoning. It was a good practice.

And beating nerds, shoving them in lockers, and sexually assaulting them so I can get my brain dead jock on! Now where is that blond cheer leader... =P

She would still have a claim to it even if they where in the US. ;)

If you divorce a woman and then come into money say a bonus from an employer based on work you did while married she would have a claim to it. A legal settlement based on an incident that happened while married would be the same. Unless she signed off on a divorce prior to his claim... which considering his claim was she found out left and divorced him due to Uber, I would have to assume she hadn't signed papers prior to the incident. :)

I asked the question earlier as a joke... but yes seriously if he does in fact get any money from Uber she gets half. That is the law pretty much everywhere... unless he had her sign a prenup that actually said in case of my cheating on you and suing a company for telling you about it, if that happens you get zippo. Something tells me she didn't sign that.

There are some states within the US where the court divide property up as community and separate property... in this case if the French law works the same way, I am not sure what arguments he would make for any settlement being separate and not community property. Good luck with that buddy. lmao

Try again. Maybe next time you won't miss the point.
