Freespace 1 and 2

I keep hearing that Descent Freespace and Freespace 2 are really good games around here, so i was thinking about picking them up for cheap. However, can someone who has them tell me if they install and play fine on WinXP?

Freespace 1's sourcecode was released, i think i still have it around here somewhere...

Freespace 2, i got off the bargain bin. Dunno if you can get it cheap online. And there's this bug with it, it doesn't display properly on my new video card. Dunno if a new patch fixed it, but i really think you should check before you buy it.
