I don't mind the idea, nor do I think the 'v2' solution isn't that bad -- but at the same time, the extra bulk is likely to be a limiting factor for many.

I'd prefer to see the RGB ...strips?... integrated into the power lines rather than strapped to them, hopefully solving the both the robustness issue and the lack of lighting on the opposite side. Maybe it won't melt?
