I remember my uncle had them lying around and gave them to me. They collected dust until today when I was cleaning. I would just need to buy a fan that fit the mobo.

Chips:

AMD Athlon 64 5200+ ADA5200IAA6CS CCBYF 0620MPMW
http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/details.aspx?opn=ADA5200IAA6CS

and

AD04600IAA5CU LDB5F 0633RPMW
like this one(?) http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopCPUDetail.aspx?id=52 but this one ends in CZ

Mobo:
hp mcp61pm-hm 5188-7686 iris-gl6
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...c=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN#N1240

So the mobo says:
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades: *
Athlon 64 X2 with Dual Core technology up to 4800+ (up to 65 watt)
* Athlon 64 up to 3800+
* Sempron - All

So does this mean the 5200+ wouldn't work and the best would be the 4600+?
Would it be worth it over my intel build (or best to test overclocking the intel)?

Thanks.

From my experience you're out of luck with the motherboard but it never hurts to give it a try. My old AM2 5000+ BE wouldn't work on an HP/Asus Nodusm3 I pulled from a Pavilion desktop but a 5600+ would.

If you are lucky you might be able to find a BIOS update for that motherboard that would allow it to recognize the newer processors.

This might help:

Most likely, the BIOS update should support the new CPU, since there isn't a technical reason why it can't be supported. The mobo website probobly says that because the CPU was released after the mobo.

But if it does, get yourself a copy of VMware ESXi, and have some fun with virtualization.

With no overclocking, any of them should do. I'd go with a cheapo, easy to mount solution, as it won't be heavy enough to need anything special and it should provide decent operating temperatures. The Freezer 7/Pro comes to mind.

I have the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro It works really well with my 4600, and will mount using the Stock hardware. No swapping out backplates or anything.

However I just ordered a Phenom 2 x4 955 and I will be upgrading to COOLER MASTER Hyper N 520 My case wont support any 120mm heatsinks without removing the side panel fan which I don't want to do so I got a 92mm heatsink like I already have. Besides the Hyper N 520 has gotten really good reviews.
