Based on the Forza Horizon 3 reviews so far, people seem to be really liking Playground Games’ latest attempt at an open-world racer. I can’t believe you need to pay $100 to play it a week early, but the PC port is apparently pretty good, with no real game-breaking issues.

I have heard nothing but good things about this game. It isn't that you are paying $100 to play a week early. You are just getting an extra bonus if you preorder the $100 version. Which I think is fair for those that preorder the top version to get a little more. If you are against preorder then you wait for the normal release date and buy the standard release

Yeah, I bought this early for $100. Not saying that it's worth it but this is an amazing racer. Visually it's one of the best looking games I've ever seen.

I know it probably means something else, but I had to chuckle at
  • FPS can fluctuate when running unlocked on PC.

they have to say that as most people are idiots and don't realize that stuff doesn't always stay hard set at one value, you might see a drop in FPS at times. Most people are too stupid to understand that logic

i played the xbox demo... and it is nice looking. Did they do the whole upgrade texture and res for pc?

In all seriousness from the reviews and impressions I've read the game does suffer from performance issues with unlocked framerate. For instance if a comp might run it at 60FPS with frame lock and never have a hitch but with FPS unlocked it will could swing from 90 down to 40 and noticeably stutter. Numers made up for illustration purposes.

They are working on it apparently

It looks very nice but less realistic than a lot games I've seen recently.

Wait wait wait. I need to use Windows 10 to play this? Even if I wanted to, that's not possible with all the other programs I'm currently using. Then again, I don't have a GTX Titan either, so who am I kidding.

Don't know how I feel about the Horizon series. Always felt a bit too arcadey. 3 has two celica's and a 240 but no 300? Lame.

Thats why i never got into Horizon series. Original Forza serie hit the sweetspot between videogame and a hardcore racing simulation and they felt glorious. But they decided to tone down the simulation aspect in Horizon for reasons i cant comprehend. Lame indeed...

I don't think it looks that good either. Simple flat terrain, with simple sprite like vegetation, very few objects. No dynamic lighting as far as I can tell. With that in mind it would be an achievement if it wouldn't run at 60fps on a titan x.
Apart from that everything looks amazing in 4K compared to 1080p. So that's not something to go by.

Windows store means I'm never going to play this, even if I want to. And I'd try it, but not at the cost of re-installing windows. And allowing a trojan on my computer.

I think it's really cute that 60fps is now the target for games, after finally moving to 144hz monitors myself. Of course I havent actually seen 4k resolution so maybe thats worth something.

Most people don't need more than 60fps. Hell I don't even need 60 fps. Sometimes less is more. I'll chose stable 30fps with consistent frame times over a jerky 60fps any time. 144hz can help even if you don't get 144fps all the time.

Yep. I'll wait for it to hit Steam. Not gonna encourage MS's attempt at GFWL 2.0: UWP Edition.

Because that was their intent. Forza Motorsport is the real racing simulator branch of the series and Forza Horizon is the arcade racing version. Some people like one type of racing game and some the other. So they have a branch for both players. New flash for you two, there are more than just you in the world and not everyone likes the exact same games that you do.

Why are game videos like this reminding me of used car salesmen, then when you buy the game the wheel falls off and it crashes into a pole 50 feet from the lot.

I preordered the Ultimate edition for my Xbox a while ago. There has not been a Forza game yet that has disappointed me and I have bought every single one dating back to the original Xbox. Sadly I am too busy to play as I will probably not get to fire up the Xbox until next year.

When I had to exchange my 144 monitor I went back to my 60hz that I still had. I swore something was broken or Windows was somehow fucked up and reverting to like 20hz refresh rates. Even basic scrolling through webpages felt like ass. I remembered having uploaded a few 60fps GIF's and went to look at them again to refresh my memory. The gif's seemed to play back nicely. Once I got my 144 back I looked at the gif's again and realized how shitty they looked and how quickly I adjusted to 144. It's so bizarre, because going up to 144 doesnt feel like that big of a deal, but going back down feels awful.

It's amazing what happens when Microsoft stops paying developers to keep their games off the PC.

what about sony or nintendo? While MS may play in both aspects (console and pc), although i dont like it one bit, I can understand at times why they did the seperation. i wish in a way they embrace more duo side. maybe treat the xbox as a budget pc and when you really want to step up to "next gen" the pc got you covered. Ironically in some ways the xbox beats alot of budget systems.

No need to gey salty. I have nothing personal against arcade racers, what i had a problem with was attaching the name Forza to them. Name that got their reputation for its simulation and car-porn aspects.

I also agree. The idea of 'damn good' physics in an open-world racer would be awesome! Forza Horizon is close, but I don't think there are any open-road racers that take a GT/Forza level of detail to their simulation.

The original Test Drive Unlimited beat GT in physics. Definitely in hardcore mode. That's the best open world racer to date. But physics in TDU2 seems dumbed down and it doesn't even have hardcore mode.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see exclusives just die. The main difference is Microsoft has a direct conflict of interest. For the past 15 years, they've taken away resources that they were previously invested in PC gaming and put them into making Xbox games, which they've largely kept OFF the PC when possible. If Microsoft wants to go down that road, fine, but I wish they weren't ALSO making my OS for PC gaming.

I prefer just usibg Steam for all of my PC games but I'm a huge For a fan. I'm very happy to be able to play this on my Xbox One or my PC without havibg to biy it twice. Also, it's the first full For a on PC.

I'm happy to plat play with higher frame rates and better visuals.

Just tried playing this last night on my PC with my Xbox 360 racing wheel. Everything worked out pretty well and the game runs and looks great on my Radeon R9 390. Though I was frustrated as I forget how hard it is to use a steering wheel :( Makes me wish there was some kind of sensitivity adjustment in the options. Anyway, loving Forza Horizon 3 through Windows Store right now. No "Windows Store games suck" comments from me. Rise of the Tomb Raider worked great and so does this one. Looking forward to Gears of War 4!

Started the video, randomly clicked in and found the tunnel part at 3:07. You can see the headlights from the car shining on the cars infront of it, but the shadows of the front cars are directly below like there is sun shining instead of the shadow being cast out front from the headlights.

Pretty shitty light effects!
