After 5 plus years in the World of Warcraft, I have finally seen enough of Azeroth for a while. My computer is now 4 years old and is in need of an upgrade to play the new games on maximum settings that I have in my sights now (Diablo III and Star Wars the Old Republic). I am looking for ideas on what to do. Here is what I am looking for:

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing?
Mostly Gaming, Web Browsing, and Microsoft Office

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
I would like to stay under $1000.00 total after rebates

3) Which country do you live in?
USA, Chicago, IL

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget?
CPU, RAM, HDD, Motherboard, Case, Fan, Power Supply, DVD-RW, Video Card, Windows 7. No monitor, speakers, mouse, or keyboard needed.

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing?
Not reusing any parts

6) Will you be overclocking?
Probably not with my budget

7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
22" 1680 X 1050

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Within the next month

9) What features do you need in a motherboard?
Not sure...whatever will cover my needs

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?
I could stick with XP, but would rather upgrade to 7

If possible, I would like to get another 4 years or so out of a new PC! Sticking with mostly MMORPG's, some COD, and any Blizzard game that comes out in that time. Thanks for your input!

Comes out to $988.81 shipped to NY after promo codes, and another $25 off after MIRs. For a computer that will last a long time where you don't need fancy overclocking, I always go cheaper on the motherboard (although not a piece of crap, just not a feature heavy one) and spend a lot on the CPU/GPU. Yes, I know a GTX 570 is probably overkill for the 1680x1050, but it won't be in 4 years.

If you are really worried about the power supply (should run it just fine) drop the Antec off there and get something beefier. You can spend up to $37 more and still be at $1000.

I recommend this setup instead:
$323 - Intel Core i5 2500K + MSI P67A-C43 Intel P67 ATX Motherboard
$42 - G.Skill Value Series F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT 2 x 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM
$280 - XFX HD-695X-CDFC Radeon HD 6950 2GB PCI-E Video Card
$65 - Hitachi Desktar 7K1000.D HDS721010DLE630 1TB SATA 6.0Gb/s Hard Drive
$20 - Samsung SH-222AL/BSBE SATA DVD Burner
$105 - Corsair 750TX V2 750W PSU
$100 - Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit OEM
--
$935 shipped

The above setup gets you a faster hard drive and a larger PSU. In addition, while yes the HD 6950 2GB is overkill for your resolution, it's an overall better value than the GTX 570 since I doubt the GTX 570 offers that much more longevity for an extra $50.

I would not recommend that Antec 300 case that's in the KatalDT's list at all due to it being cramped and having limited to no cable management. I recommend any of these other cases instead:
$70 - Lian Li Lancool PC-K58 ATX Case
$80 - Lian Li Lancool PC-K56W ATX Case
$90 - Lian Li Lancool PC-K56 ATX Case
$90 - Cooler Master CM690 II Advance ATX Case
$90 - Lian Li Lancool PC-K7B ATX Case
$100 - Cooler Master CM690 II Advance nVidia Edition ATX Case
$100 - Cooler Master HAF 922 RC-922M-KKN1-GP ATX Case
$100 - Corsair Carbide Series 400R ATX Case
$100 - Lian Li Lancool PC-K58W ATX Case
$100 - Lian Li PC-7B Plus II ATX Case
$110 - Lian Li PC-60FN ATX Case
$125 - NZXT Phantom PHAN-001WT White Full Tower ATX Case
$125 - NZXT Phantom PHAN-001BK Black Full Tower ATX Case
$125 - NZXT Phantom PHAN-002OR Black Finish w/Orange Trim Full Tower ATX Case
$130 - Corsair Carbide Series 500R ATX Case

You have a pretty good build. But, I agree on Danny on the Antec 300 case. It's a good case but at $70, I don't think its worth it now considering it was $45 on Best Buy and Amazon.com a few days ago. The case is small and you'll have issues with longer video cards that's 11" or longer. Plus, id go with the Radeon 6950 video card. It will be a good card for that resolution. The Antec 520 is a good deal at $50 with $10 promo but, I'd step up the psu to a 650 watt for that extra headroom to upgrade.

Thank you to everyone for your advice so far. I think I am leaning towards the Radeon 6950. Two questions....

1. Should I purchase now with the current deals or wait until Black Friday deals are out? Are the deals typically much better at that time. I want to have my build up and running by the Star Wars MMO launch in about mid-December, so I think I could get everything shipped out by then.

2. What fans would be recommended?

Thanks Again!

A note on the Antec 300 above by KatalDT. The recommended one is the 300 Illusion model which includes the extra two front LED 120mm fans. The base 300 mode only includes a rear and top fan. The fans are also 3 speed fans which is a bonus but some people don't like the LED fans, so that's something to consider. The 300 goes on sale quite frequently and the Illusion version can sometimes be had at the same price as the base version for around $60 shipped. For that price range I find the 300 Illusion to be great value but if you have more to spend on a case, there are definitely better cases to be had.

I typically use the 300 in budget builds for others.

Not necessarily. The last few Black Fridays have been a little lackluster when it comes to computer hardware sales with many of those sales being similar to sales we've seen all year/

I like the old yate-loons myself:
$3.60 - 120mm Yate Loon D12SL-12 Case Fan

There's a Microcenter in Chicago. You might be able to save a bit on your CPU purchase if you look there.

Here is what I was able to put together with the help I received:

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=21934007

The final cost should be right around $996 shipped (plus another $40.00 off in rebates). Please feel free to let me know what you think! I am going to wait about a day to place the order.

Thanks Again for all of the tips!

If you want that Antec 300 Illusion case, let's go with this build instead for a better deal. Alot cheaper than your build.

CASE + O/S - MS Windows 7 64bit + Antec Illusion both for $164.98
http://www.newegg.com/Produc/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.722409.11-129-066

CPU + VIDEO CARD - Intel Core i5 2500K + MSI N560GTX-TI both for $446.98 ($20 MIR on video card)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.749718

MOBO + PSU - MSI P67A-C43 + Corsair 650TX both for $189.98 ($25 MIR on psu)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.750540
You don't need a 750PSU. You won't be doing an Crossfire or SLI anyways.

RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 for $46.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231311

HDD - HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.D HDS721010DLE630 for $64.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145533

OPTICAL - ASUS 24X Sata DVD Burner for $18.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

Ditch that Antec 300 case or get a significantly shorter card. That HD 6950 2GB will be hard to fit inside that case. Then there's really really shitty cable management. I don't see a good reason to get the Antec 300 at its $70 or even $50 price range.

The rest of those parts are fine but HG has shown you a few ways to save money with equal quality parts. However, don't get the Antec 300.

Thanks for the tip on the case. I switched the Antec 300 out for the Lian Li Lancool PC-K58 ATX Case (69.99 down to 55.99 with a 20% off code). I also bumped down to the Corsair 650 PSU from the 750. I think I want to stay with the Radeon 6950 over a N560GTX, so here is what my build looks like now:

Any thoughts on combos for this setup?

Thank you!

A couple of the reviews that I read about the Lian Li Lancool PC-K58 ATX Case made me a little nervous about making sure the Radeon 6950 would fit ok. After a little more research, I think it should be ok. So I will put it back in. Thank you very much for the RAM and PSU combo. Your help is greatly appreciated!
