He claimed he suffered a hernia and atrial fibrillation due to stress from "defamatory statements" by Twin Galaxies.

Yeah... It's pretty clear that the world record videos in question were from MAME, and he claimed they weren't. There's no way the recorded video came from a real machine, and if there was, Mitchell could show us all how wrong we are by setting it up again. This is different than the overly dramatized controversy in King of Kong. Mr. Mitchell is obviously pretty good at Donkey Kong, but maybe only count records played in public on pre-verified machines. Or like, don't care, it's a ton of points on a game most people can't get two screens in, so you're good and that's fine.

My favorite was when he tried to prove he was legit by streaming on Twitch, and the video was perpendicular to the arcade machine. We only saw a capture of the screen and no view of his hands.

Before a friend of mine dragged me to see the film (mostly against my will) in 2007, I had no idea anyone was still playing these old arcade games.

Donkey Kong was great in 1981. I even enjoyed it in the late 80's on my NES.

Why a grown man would worry about something so silly as a top score in a 40 year old arcade game is beyond me.

I literally can't thing of anything that matters less than Donkey Kong high scores do.

It reminds me of the Seinfeld Frogger episode

This hot sauce was some of the best I've had in awhile

Bought it as a joke, because you have to support a con-artist, right?
The truth is, this hot sauce was some of the best I've had in awhile.
Fantastic work

he does look like a youth pastor at a baptist church from the mid 80s tho. All the wrong vibes. But yeah, why and how does this guy still get in the news, and who are the people in the little subset of competitive time trials of old games keeping it relevant?

Starting to really question your life choices, eh?
It's kind of like when people say "Wait PewDiePie makes how much money doing THAT!?" yeah feels a little bit like that. That said, Mitchell is nearly 10 years older than me, but my mom would not let me get away with playing video games at an arcade that long.

Gotta love the early 80's arcade hardcores. Executing the same simple (but pixel perfect) patterns for like 8 straight hours to do it a fraction better than someone else FTW. People have watched the guy break some of those records in person, so he's clearly capable of doing some of that shit under direct supervision. The fact that people just keep trying to nail him and he keeps doing whatever he's doing = very strange to me. Especially with nothing but bragging rights in a tiny community on the line.

I suspect the movie might have something to do with it. People believe that in real life, he's the character depicted in the movie. He's clearly eccentric but we have gotten long past the point where the accusations get ridiculous. Am I supposed to believe he elaborately cheated a record that he can clearly pull off without cheating? Why should I care? Are journalists so creatively bankrupt that they need to dredge up this story again, and again, and again? He's a weird guy...but he's not that interesting.
