How do I do that in XP? I have a memory card reader that HAS to have specific drivers from a floppy I have. XP keeps automatically installing its crappy ones. I click Update Driver and choose the floppy ones but it says the ones installed are a better match. I know it can be done. How?

pay attention when it forces you to use the crappy driver
note its location, navigate to it, rename the driver
(just add "old" to the back before the extention)
then uninstall the device in device manager
Start > Run > (type) devmgmt.msc

then reinstall it, this time when it looks for the driver it wants it cant find it and you can make it eat the one you want

then go back and name the driver back to its original name, just in case you need it at some point ;)

its never failed me yet, Ive had to do that for one of my NICards a couple dozen times
and it also doesnt "have" to be on a FDD it can be anywhere you like as long as you can navigate to it
I have a central repository of hardware drivers organized into a folder heirarchy
provided I have LAN access and the drive is mapped with that box I can grab them off the NAS itself
otherwise I generally employ a flash drive
