For the [H]orde 9800GX2 for $120 BFG Refurb

Wow, I just picked up a BFG gtx 260 860mb for $110 and now this pops up. Is the dual 9800 gx2 a better buy then the gtx 260 I got awhile back?

The 9800GX2 is a great card and would be a better buy than your 260 at this price. However, it's a refurb, power hungry and runs very hot.

I don't think I'd want a BFG card at this point, especially since its a refurb.

I'm looking to buy a used ati 5770 for around $100 or I can get this card + a new powersupply which would be about $150...

its better for folding, but for gaming, NO. The GTX260 is better

How is the GTX 260 better for gaming than the 9800GX2? Here are some good benchmarks to prove my point. Maybe I need glasses but I don't see the GTX 260 beating the 9800 GX2 in any of the benchmarks. Heck, the 9800 GX2 beats the GTX 280 in most of the benchmarks, as well.

Min frame rates.

...or for the same price you can get a SINGLE-core 9800 GT 512Mb @ TD... but only through the [H]ard|OCP portal

ROFLMFAO

While a single 9800gx2 might be close to a 260, it was a bit harsh to go to from a pair of 9800gx2s to a single 260 when waiting for the RMAs to sort. Ended up with 285s, which feels a bit better in game while waiting to figure out what to do next.

For folks doing CUDA development, these cards just rock. One of the better ways to get a large array of GPUs. While the 285s might be faster, the work stuff is noticeably slower with half the cores. Waiting on the next cut dual GPU of Fermi cards.

Does anyone know how much power these use under full load? Seeing different numbers online....but might upgrade my 3x 9800gtx+'s if my tx750 can handle them

Your TX750 should be able to handle it just fine.

I appreciate the input, but since you said "it" maybe I wasn't clear. I mean to go from 3 9800gtx+'s to 3 9800gx2's

I picked up a 1kw pc power and cooling, so I should be good now

Trying to remember sizing, when we did it. Think we planned for 300w for each 9800gx2.

can you SLI it with 9800GTX? i have one of those and would be a cheap upgrade for me if i can join it with my 9800gtx

no you can't even with the 9800gt, which is the gpu that is on there x2. 9800gt x2 = 9800gx2
