I loved Rage3D forums, about 4 years ago. Now a day doesn't go by that I don't check out HardOCP/Hardforum.

So, as of today I'm switching FOLDING teams from #64 to #33.

I average about 1400PPD. Not superb, but not bad either. =)

Welcome to the [H]orde! Points are points, it doesn't matter how few or how many. Thanks for helping the cause!

Fold On!

Folding is folding welcome to the team.

But be aware you will be expected to give out beers. (or sodas for our underage Horde'lings)

Hey DogChainX glad to have ya' on the [H]orde foldin' team, a team like no other, we've got the [H]ardest folders on the "Net".

WELCOME

FOLD ON!

Welcome to the [H]ardest team, where people learned to piss in tall weed ;)

Just an update.

I saw that newegg has 2600XT PCIe for ~$36 shipped. Anyone care to elaborate if you can stick three of these into a system and have the GPU client fold on all three?

You can probably do it, there's nothing I can think of off hand to prevent you but the production level on these is low compared to nVidia cards. A single 8800GT or even an 8600GT will outproduce them. Another thing to consider is that people with more than two cards have sometimes encountered issues that didn't surface with one or two cards. Seeing how cheap these are, your investment wouldn't be that high so it might be worth a try.

Tedkj is doing 4 GPU's in a box right now (although he's using GTX280's :D).

And theres a little ATI specific howto at Stanford:

And most importantly, before I forget, welcome!

Yep... welcome man, glad your here!

Don't forget to grab a beer and a tamale, and Fold On!!!!

Welcome!

If you want to try and squeeze a bit more out of your system.....

We have our ways ;)

Fantastic! Welcome to the team!

Did you turn in any points yet?

Is this you: stats link ???

I don't see any team 33 points yet.

Fold on!

Welcome to the [H]orde.
You're just in time to celebrate our 1 billionth point in mid August.

Let's see your system specs...I know we can improve on that 1400PPD.
This is [H]ard DC...we can get 1400 out of a toaster. ;)

That may be true... but I haven't had a tamale in three days and my GPU ppd went in the crapper today.....

Coincidence?

I think not;)

Uh-huh....pics or shens..
Let me see your pizza boxen before you claim a tamale deficit.

Ya got me....I have no pizza boxen, Chester here has a tendency to eat anything that smells even remotely like pizza....

Trust me, I have put some serious thought into the pizza boxen method, but I fear for the life of my hardware......

Right now, here's my system:

C2D e8400 @ 4.2GHz
4GB DDR2-80)
WinVista 64BIT
300GB Raptor
4870 HD (to be exchanged to a GTX 280)

When you get that 280 you should be able to push over 8k.

Nice specs, running the SMP client should net you 2800-3000 ppd at 4.2GHz I'm
guessing. Not sure with a GPU client, I run NV, but there are plenty of folders here
running ATI. So your best bet maybe running 1 SMP and 1 GPU client.
Vista 64 bit seems to give pretty good results when running the GPU and SMP
client together.

I see the problem. Looking over your past statistics, you are letting that C2D go to waste. With that OC, you should be getting better than an SMP unit a day on the CPU.

Edit: Beat me to it. :D

Welcome DogChainX! Glad to have you folding for the Horde. :) If we can help you out just let us know.

If this is a folding boxen the majority of the time you should indeed take a look at the SMP client as others mentioned. I would probably run the SMP client until you get a 280.;)

I can't get the SMP client to work under Vista64. I've tried all the Wiki entries, and still no go.

What exactly is/isn't happening? I'm certain that we can get you going. Like relic said, we can squeeze a couple hundred PPD out of a toaster, we can definitely get a supported platform running.

Here's my EXACT steps:

1. downloaded SMP Beta 5.91 beta6
2. installed to C:\Folding
3. ran install.bat from the command prompt.
4. hit enter for user name, and entered password (yes, my account has a password)
5. command prompt ended with "press any key to continue"
6. Press any key, nothing happens. returns me to the command prompt.

tried running fah.exe says:

Credentials for "computer name\username" rejected connecting to "computer name"
Unable to connect to "computer name"

You have to disable UAC before installing.

I think that is your problem. (or I might be wrong :p)

Disable UAC or right-click 'run as administrator'. Both should do the trick.

I tried that as well...nothing works.

However, my computer name has a dash in int. "SK-HOME".

That MIGHT be a problem from some posts i've read. any comments?

I know that's not an issue in XP or 2k but Vista is more finicky about security, so can't say for sure.

DogChainX, can you paste the text after you run install.bat so we can tell what's wrong :)

With Vista 64 (I have this OS on 2 boxens), you need to disable UAC or run the cmd as administrator to make it work.

Press any key to continue . . .

C:\FOLDING>

Thats what happens. I'm going to see later if changing the computer name so it doesn't include the dash. (Something like SKHOME instead of SK-HOME).

I DO run the cmd.exe command as administrator, and have disabled the UAC as well. Still nothing.

Here's what happens when i try running fah.exe from the same directory:

C:\FOLDING>fah

use of this software requires that you have read and accepted this agreement.

Credentials for SK-HOME\Shaun rejected connecting to SK-HOME

Do the account Shaun have a password ? It is required to make it work.

yes, it does have a password. not weird symbols in the password either. just letters and numbers.

Is the account with Administrator rights ?

The password must not contain spaces, special characters but only a-z, A-Z and 0-9.

yes, account is administrator rights. password is only alphanumeric, with no odd symbols.
