There seems to be an issue with the latest patches release by Microsoft. A number of our laptops had a problem about a minute or two after booting. They would receive an error similar to this [svchost.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x745f2780"] and the error continues onward. It seems to affect laptops more than pc's. Microsoft has released a hotfix for the problem found here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891/
Follow the instructions for calling Microsoft tech support. (800) MICROSOFT (642-7676) Note when you get to their menu system at one point you will be asked if your copy of windows came with your computer or you purchased your copy of windows. Just select the option for "you purchased your copy". Otherwise it will tell you to call your vendor for the problem. Also another menu option to choose will be #2 (pro support). If you continue on to tech support just tell them you need the hotfix # KB927891. In most cases I found they won't even ask for your serial number or product key and will proceed to email you the hotfix. Sorry I don't have a place on the web that I can make the download available.

There is also an issue in which a different error may occur shortly after booting in which you receive a "generic host process" error. A link to fix that can be found here:

This also shows as svchost or wuauclt using 90-100% of CPU for long periods of time. You see it a lot on networks that use a WSUS server
