I attempted to deploy a SonicWall TZ170 Firewall tonight

It seemed to be pretty straight forward, except when I never got a connection to the internet.

I was able to connect to the firewall via web browser and it recognized the LAN

(I only used a laptop to connect to the firewall)
If I plug the laptop directly into the 24 port switch ( C5E ), it shows that a network cable is unplugged. I tested on all 24 ports.

Its almost as if someone shut off the switch
The Switch or Patch Panel is owned by the buildiing

The laptop connection was working earlier in the day, before attempted deployment

Could it be anything to do with ARP tables, and if it is what do i do?

can anyone help me? is this enough info?

Does the firewall have connectivity to the 'net? Is there a router before the firewall, or is it one of those all-in-one home models?

I'd verify that your firewall can communicate with the 'net, and then work backwards from there. Either that, or go hire someone who has a little more experience.

An ARP table is a listing, internal to a router, switch, or PC, which keeps a record of IP addresses and their matching MAC addresses.

I figured it out, i was trying to use public gateway with private ip's without setting anything else up, I am up and running now, thanks
