Robots, 1. Humans, 0. A factory in China has found that their wholesale adoption of a robotic force has nearly tripled production, and not only that, defects have decreased by 80% as well. Is this a prequel to the Second Renaissance?

After a factory in Dongguan, China, replaced most of its workers with robots, it witnessed a spectacular rise in productivity. …the Changying Precision Technology Company focuses on the production of mobile phones and uses automated production lines. The factory used to be run by 650 employees, but now just 60 people get the entire job done, while robots take care of the rest. Luo Weiqiang, the general manager, says the number of required employees will drop to 20 at one point. Despite this reduction in staff, not only is the factory producing more equipment (a 250% increase), but it’s also ensuring better quality.
 
And this is news why? I mean we knew this since the first manufacturing robot was created.

Technological unemployment could be a good thing. If only we'd have the necessary social / economical change to back it up.
 
The future is highly skilled workers always staying one step ahead of robotics. Manufacturing with people is a 100+ year old process.

Thats fantastic. Now if the owner of the factory can get the 590 robots that replaced humans, to spend their paycheques, then the economy will improve significantly. I wonder how much the humans, the ones that keep the robots functioning, made more per paycheque.

Next they'll have robots that can do maintenance, they're already working on janitorial workers, aka iRobot's roomba, but for industry and profits, no more wages to pay out, eventually no more customers, since anyone who'd want to buy something would need a check to do so with, and that would be spending.
 
I see me doing robot repair in dah future. Maybe Kyle can get a robot to assemble his chairs. lol
 
It's not just that there won't be anyone with money to buy the products from the factories, or that, if everyone gets a universal wage for doing nothing by taxing factories, then the factory owners will be spending more than if they had human workers. It's that people don't do well on vacations. Look at how happy, excited and full of plans people look during their first week of vacations. Look at how much there is a diminishing return on the second week. Look at how they start to get bored on the third week. Look at how they're going crazy and bouncing against the walls by the fourth week. Give them 80 years of vacations and only the 10% of people who can find pleasure in study and/or art will not be jumping from rooftops.
 
How can we erect trade barriers to bring menial jobs back if manufacturers keep manufacturing machines to manufacture other things?

Easy answer is, you can't pay a machine a minimum wage & a machine can't purchase your goods.......yet.

In the current system, that would imply only some people would be allowed to have jobs.

The alternative view would be that EVERY job available today would be considered a highly skilled job 100 years ago. There for the future is no different. Minimum wage jobs aint going now where.

Half of humanity lies on the left side of intelligence bell curve. They simply do not have the mental horsepower to be productive citizens in the future we are facing. Eventually, no one will, no matter what IQ they're packing. I'm not even going to try and predict how this will all shake out.
 
The future is robotic slavery where humans own robots and send them out to work. The business the robots work for pays wages to the owners for their use. The robot owner stays busy by upgrading/repairing his robotic slaves. Or maybe use robots like that movie about robot boxers. That all works well until, in 2164, robots are granted their freedom. By 2264 the robots still aren't satisfied with their social status and demand, and are given, equal rights.

Huh? men always had to work. At one point it was to look for food... and shelter... oh wait it still is, its just we have different ways of doing so.

Well that's the scary thing, we don't know how it will "shake out", but right now, signs point to a small number of people controlling the supply (ie. The automated work force) and the capital. Unless we take steps to socialize the fruits of production, the gulf between the haves and have nots is going to be staggering. The even greater problem is how and when we move to a UBI (universal basic income) without destroying the remnants of the current system. I don't think it's a question of if, only when we have to move to a socialist model. The left seems to think I the time is now, and to some extent they're right, but I personally think we're a ways off from that. I'm afraid we're in for some serious societal upheaval in the near future as we transition to an automated workforce. Gonna be...Interesting.

If the entire WorkForce is replaced with robots. Whos going to be able to afford the products produced by them. Companies only see profits in short term thinking. They never see long term investments.

Yeah I was gonna say, I wouldn't underestimate our ability to stick our heads in the sand and not solve the problem to the point of everything collapsing.

Something has to give, especially when warehouses are full to the brim with goods and nobody has a penny to buy them.

Hell, maybe we will finally move away from the money bs.

If we ever get there, i imagine that luxurious items wont be made, instead, only things that are really needed.

There won't be enough jobs for skilled workers even if everyone could be transitioned or trained into being a skilled worker.

Also strong PI's and weak AI's will automate away a surprising number of skilled labor and white collar jobs.

The future is a relative few highly intelligent and creative people will be doing the work while everyone else will need a Mincome or UBI of some sort to survive. Or they'll be left to die in future favelas.
 
I see all kinds of problems with robots. There is gonna be a revolution and robots will be full of holes!
