The next time you walk into your kid's dorm room on a visit and see the big authentic elephant tusk bong sitting on the coffee table, you know where he got it...Facebook. Damn kids and their cryptocurrency! In all seriousness, this really is a thing. Guess that One Laptop Per Child initiative had some effect after all.

On Facebook, wildlife traffickers can speedily connect with buyers across the globe, fast-tracking illegal, unregulated deals from within the semiprivate world of groups. That means, in order to tackle wildlife trading, you have to first figure out Facebook. Michael’s new profile was the first step in a massive digital sting operation, aimed at exposing how Facebook facilitates the illegal wildlife trade. Eventually, the evidence he collected would help a global consortium of conservationists launch a complaint they hope will rid the site of these kinds of posts—and tamp down on trafficking writ large.

Honestly with over a billion people one the site it is impossible to maintain. I think animal trafficking might be one of the lesser crimes going on, on the site.

Are you sure it is that many actual people? I know some people that have 3-4 or more accounts all by themselves. Fake accounts are a good percentage of all accounts on Facebook.

Who gives a shit? Facebook is the herpes of the internet no matter.

I guess I don't understand why kid porn, rape and animal abuse are still issues. These people should be shot on the spot, removed from society and history deleted from the scrolls.

while i get the facebook hate, this is an issue that LONG predates the internet..phones.. etc

whats funny in a way, is that with viagra.. it might actually help with the illegal poaching of animals for their boner "value"

My mom has some ivory carvings, i tried to convince her to crudely carve a <100 year old date on the bottom so we can sell them.

Guess we can't now that i posted that idea on the internet

True, it may not be a full billion people, but there are well over 1.3 billion active accounts, so the maintenance problem is still the same.

It's not Facebook, peeps. Good or ill, this is the Internet. Not quite the aim that TBL envisioned, but it sure is democratic ain't it?
