A report by The Information claims that Facebook is looking for a cybersecurity firm to buy. According to four anonymous insiders, Facebook approached multiple companies with talks about an acquisition, but the report didn't mention any companies by name. Facebook suffered from a big security breach earlier this year, and with smart hardware shipping into users' homes, they can't afford another one.

Sources declined to say which companies had been approached, but one said a deal could be closed as soon as the end of this year. Facebook has reportedly assembled a team to scout out targets with a view to bolstering its cybersecurity expertise and to quell public criticism of its data protection.

Or maybe to start an in-house troll farm operation to work on Facebook's own platform as part of the same efforts (like recently censoring and purging hundreds of non-establishment news pages) Facebook is conducting as part of its partnership with the US gov't funded and run pro-war propaganda organization Atlantic Council. The US government contracts many cyber-security firms for that, such as Ntrepid and HBGary (or whatever their name has now been changed to).

Facebook doesn't present a really viable case for employment....

"No remote work. You will have to move to California."

No thanks.

Buying a security firm isn't going to help terrible internal policies that allow breaches to happen. Its just going to make it easier to cover them up. Having regular third party non-biased audits will work much better for them since there is not possibility they can influence a potential cover up. Lets face it with the mess that is Facebook you know its happening. Its already been proven they cover up stuff regularly.

I really don't get it. What are they trying to protect? Half the users are fake/bot accounts, and the other half don't actually care about any cyber security in their lives, otherwise they wouldn't be using social media. Facebook has already pilfered and sold off every little tidbit about you...

Why protect half of nothing that doesn't even want protection?

Actually it finally clicked right now... I just have to look at this like a meme...

This is no different than all those "pretty" girls posting the photo-shops of themselves when reality is the whole other direction...

*Facebook Cybersecurity* = 2 dudes in India "monitoring" traffic with a 386 using a 14400 modem in a 5x9 room... Its all about the posing, Im sure the room looks bigger and sleeker when photographed from a higher angle...
