Thousands of Facebook employees have lost all access to internal iOS corporate apps because Apple has revoked the company's enterprise license that allows Facebook to develop apps outside of the Apple App Store for internal use only. This has caused widespread panic at the social media giant as employees are unable to use their iPhone devices to open iOS beta apps in development and other apps such as the lunch menu and transportation.

Facebook ran a scheme to pay teens and others $20 a month for the right to data mine their phones using an app that violated Apple App Store rules. It circumvented the Apple App Store rules by using its enterprise certificate from Apple to develop the apps that used a VPN to track people's phone activity and web traffic in exchange for money. To further hide its rules violations, Facebook instructed victims to sideload the Facebook Research app onto their iOS devices. Apple says the enterprise certificate is only to be used to develop apps for a company's internal use. Since Facebook blatantly broke the rules, Apple revoked the company's enterprise license.

The reports have only escalated tensions between Apple and Facebook. The streaming news network Cheddar on Wednesday described Facebook employees as saying they thought their company was being "unfairly targeted" by Apple.

This makes me smile!

Can't wait till the new Galaxy Note comes out so hopefully they will stick the 9 on a large discount.. and then I will be rid of my dying-battery iPhone 6s.

Facebook got creamed good, wow... As an employee at another company that relies on internal apps for food, transportation and other stuff, hell yes Facebook employees are panicking.
And it was a MAJOR fail for Facebook to circumvent the rules like this, Apple was fully justified to yank their license.

Wow.. Apple is right though.
Why not go with the experiment using Android.. its just dumb to basically hack Apple.
There is no issues if they asked Android users to install the app directly, its just that unsecured source warning or whatever.

unfairly targeted my ass. That is like a company getting pissed off that they purchased an unlimited install site license for software, started to give it out online, then when found out by the software maker their key gets disabled.

The app does work on both platforms. There is another thread (https://hardforum.com/threads/facebook-paid-teens-to-test-even-more-invasive-apps.1976407/) that talks about the app itself. The problem here was that Apple pulled this app because of its wide spread access to everything. if you agreed to use the app it gathered all of your information, location, emails, phone calls, text, im messages from all chat programs, pictures, took pictures of your amazon shopping carts, and so on. After Apple pulled it they started to side load it into the phones to get around Apple. If Google cared enough to block the app they might have a similar issue on that side too.

Interesting..
In this case Facebook was paying users to be spied.. I don't think google would care.. I mean i can see them not allowing it in the play store, but I don't think google would go as far as to stop letting someone load it as an untrusted source app.
If i understand correctly, Apple is completely closed, so once Facebook wasn't allowed in the Apple store, they shouldn't have screwed with it anymore. Its just dumb ass actions by Facebook.
I imagine in the end Apple will reverse their moves.. I don't think they should, it reads pretty rotten what Facebook did.

Well, aint it a good time to rely on a piece of code for your basic needs... noobs. Computers gonna get us all, I tell ya... whats wrong with a piece of paper and a pen? (says programmer hahah)

Apple should keep it revoked for a while, won't get the message across if they just give it back. Apparently google was doing something similar but cleaned up before Apple found out.

I definitely appreciate Apple's tact for the consumer here. I don't trust Facebook and say good on Apple.

Two evil companies bumping heads? Don't worry, the head cheesters will come out unscathed.

Conflicted on this one. Happy that FB is feeling pain from their blatant violation of the agreement between them and Apple. Worried that it highlights the dangers of software that be turned off remotely.

I bet if Google had offered Apple a cut this wouldn't have happened.

Now I'm prepared to pay $1500 for an iPhone XS Max (I think it's pronounced Excess Max), because now I'm confident that my money will do more than just bolster Apple's coffers. It also goes towards protecting my privacy. Finally, a corporation that cares about my well being. /s

It's nothing more than a PR move by Apple. Oh, and frak Facebook.

Bwahahaha Serves them right for:

a.) Being shady data collectors and privacy violators; and

b.) Getting so dependent on apps.

If you are panicking because your bus schedule and lunch menu apps don't work, you have no life skills and should just quit now.
