Extending wires on CCFL ballast

I found some of my old CCFLs and want to throw them into my case again, but the way I want to position everything the wires from the ccfl rod itself it to "ballast" are too short. Are they any special type of wire or is it just a basic 16awg wire? and is there any problem with cutting them and extending them??

16AWG will be fine. However, you need to make sure you have 600V insulation. Those wires don't carry much current, but they *are* quite high voltage.
