We have unified messaging setup on our exchange 07 server, which works great. We're using Asterisk and FreePBX and Hudlite for end users. Currently, voicemail can go into two different spots depending on how a call is transfered and I'm trying to keep the 'direct to voicemail' feature, while maintaining the ability to check voicemail via unified messaging through the attendant. Here are further details.

Scenario #1

-Client calls in and transfer to extension 123, the phone rings, nobody picks up, they leave a voicemail, and now it is accessible via Unified Messaging or Outlook.

The positive: This allows a user to call into the unified messaging system and listen to their voicemail over the phone.

The negative: Cannot transfer directly to voicemail, phone has to ring or be on DnD.

Scenario #2

-Client calls in and gets transfered Directly to voicemail of extension 123 using the Hud Interface (dragging and dropping the call to the voicemail icon), this activates the Asterisk side of voicemail. User leaves a message, Asterisk is set to deliver the voicemail as a wav to the inbox of the user, and delete the voicemail from the phone. User can access e-mail through outlook.

The positive: Allows xfer direct to voicemail, phone does not have to ring.

The negative: Exchange Unified Messaging attendant recognizes there is an e-mail in the inbox, but does not recognize the wav attachment, nor does it allow you to play the wav attachment, making the voicemail inaccessable via phone unless you have access to outlook to play the wav attachment.

What I am trying to accomplish:

Trying to keep the direct to voicemail feature, while allowing users to check their voicemail using a phone through exchange unified messaging while out of the office, while keeping all the voicemail under a central location.

Possible ideas:

-Find a way to forward standard wav attachments into the unified messaging system using a rule, which could possibly allow unified messaging to think they are voicemails.

-Do not use the direct to voicemail feature (currently doing this, but it causes some annoyance since phones ring and have to go unanswered in order to have VM in unified messaging system)

Help and input is appreciated.
