I didn't take these, but a guy over in the Dell forums did.

here is FEAR running on his new Dell 2007. This ought to finally answer the question about whether this banding matters in real-world situations. In a word: YES it does.

I'm returning my 2007 back to Dell this week. I hate this!

EDIT(4/27): here's another clear example. All those concentric circles coming out of the moon and into the sky to the top of the image are all banding.

Doesn't look all that great but I don't think there would be that big of a difference between the 2005 and the 2007 maybe it is just a bad batch. I mean think about the whold problem with the backlight bleed on the 05.

You mean the backlight bleeding problem that Dell never fixed, despite howls of anger for years?

I don't think this is a "bad batch" of 2007s and I'm not sure Dell gives a fig. They did nothing about the 2005's backlight bleeding after something like 4 revisions.

I had high hopes for Dell 2007WFP, but it seems like this monitor has alot of issues. Sanity are you still going to try the the xbox 360 using VD-Z3 trasnscover on this monitor.
Now I'm wondering if Dell 2407 is worth waiting for , it uses different panel then 2007 but knowing Dell quality issues, maybe I should stay away from Dell .

Watch out for the 15% restocking fee plus return shipping...

Uhhh no...

Dell has 21 day no questions asked return policy. No restocking fee. If the monitor is defective, they will pay for the shipping and send you a brand new one overnight.

I think thats just the nature of fast respons ips panels.

No, this doesn't happen on other panels (Viewsonic, Gateway, etc.). And anyway, the Dell 2007 isn't all that fast.

Read here, under section "8. Return Policies" or for the US, read here, section "Restocking Fees" (just search for 'restocking' in your browser). No questions asked policy?? Where did you get that?

It doesn't happen on my GF's LG 1751S,ever,which I payed 239.98 CDN for without mir 3 months ago.

i just got my 2007wfp as well im still a little confused with the banding issue... is this good or bad?... i compared my dell 2007wfp with my friends samsung 204B

SAMSUNG 204B native resolution 32bit colour

if im not mistaken they look ALOT alike... and from the looks of it the samsung is worse.. having the images in JPEG kinda ruins the clarity

I have the Dell 2007 too and just got off the phone with Dell customer service about a return. I refused to pay the $20 shipping charge to return the monitor to them on the grounds that this is an inherent design flaw. They didn't argue and are paying for the return charges. DHL comes tomorrow to pick up this major disappointment of a monitor. You needn't be a graphic designer to have banding affect you, it'll crop up sooner or later in a game or website browsing. Why pay $500 for that?

My advice to those considering it: save yourself the trouble, don't buy this unless they fix it. (And even then, I'm not 100% happy with text on the 2007. The sharpness and clarity I'd expect just aren't there through DVI).

I believe those are screen captures, and not photographic captures (using digital camera).

I just recieved my 2007WFP and was really happy with it. It's great on PC (DVI), and I didn't really notice any banding. But then again, I haven't got an eye for these things like you guys.

Then I plugged in my Dreamcast...

Now that I am awake. I realize these are screen caps from your computer. This tells us nothing about the display. You need to use a digital camera and take a picture of any issue.

Can we get some more pics of any other dreamcast game and the whole monitor included. :D

Question for OP:
Do you know what resolution, color depth and image quality settings are in those screenshots?

Also for everyone taking pictures to show banding, please say what the ISO level for your camera set at. And for that matter, please state what camera you are using. I see a lot of these pictures people take to demonstrate banding and while I do see banding present, I also see a horribly grainy and overexposed picture. Some insight on the camera from people taking these seeminingly crappy pictures would help mold what the picture looks like to what it would look like IRL.

Try this example on for size. A guy took this pic of his 2007 displaying his AOL wallpaper. That be banding all over the place! He said the different shades of blues going out from the moon should blend into one another and clearly they don't. This was my experience with the 2007 and that's why DHL is picking it up today to ship it back. DON'T BUY THIS MONITOR.

Well, for my Dreamcast shots, I was using my old Canon IXUS 400. But it doesn't matter what camera I'm using, because I'm telling you that that is what it looks like in person. If anything, the white screen shots look better in my pictures. I've had a play around with it, and it shows up on all Dreamcast games I've checked. I haven't got around to lugging my PS2 over here to test yet.

And I've been playing around with my PC all day, and I haven't come accross anything as horrible as the post above mine. I've looked at all different pictures, photos, games, pornos, and it all comes up fine as far as I'm concerned.

I guess I should note that im using the DVI slot for my PC and the VGA slot for my Dreamcast. When I can be bothered, I'll plug my PS2 into the S-Video slot and check that out.

agreed, I think the 2405FPW was the luck of the draw really. Dell products aren't exactly known for being the pinnacle of quality PC components.

by others. Also mine was made in China too.

guess there is no such thing as a perfect LCD

nah you cant for $450-550 for 20" . IMO i think that the technology is not there yet and isnt cheap enough. I guess the closest to perfection with a reasonable price would be the new NEC. Think about it, all these offerings from acer, dell, viewsonic etc are all good but each has pros and cons. NEC trumps em all but you pay through the nose for less cons.

hey guys, are ALL the 2007's messed up with banding? Mine came today, but I fear opening the box.

Um, not sure if you guys are aware but Dell released new versions of the 2007FP.

I recieved mine with the dell pc deal I posted, and it is perfect. No banding at all. It even has additional features that the older 2007 supposedly didn't have.

If you really want I can go ahead and take a pic with my camera. Just let me know what I should do.

I'd be interested in seeing some pics of the banding on your panel as well as your service menu info.

Whether Dell released newer revisions or not... they all have banding problems. I posted mine on eBay and didn't bother opening it. The seller whom I bought it from never replied back to me with Dells service # or anything, so getting a hold of Dell is pretty much Useless.
