EVGA GTX 690 is live on Newegg

Damn! The joke's on me. I must be the dumbest motherlover out here. I could've bought 2 and sold one of them for $2000! Ah well live and learn. That's what you get when you're raised in a socialist country.

haha damn i'm on auto notify now, i'm going to just write a script to poll that page until that button turns to add to cart and have it txt me!!

I bet you feel the same way about oil prices huh? I bet you scream for joy when exxon posts record profits. Gotta do your part. Anyway, I don't care for businesses that are unethical and try to take advantage of a situation. You can gladly be a sucker and pay it though, peace.

Thats the dumbest thing Ive ever heard. Comparing a video card to oil? You have to have oil. The world's economies depend on it. Video cards?

The GTX690 is like the seats in a NFL stadium. The regular seats are like $100 or so. The big fancy suites with waiters and a mini bar are in the thousands of dollars. Thats not price gouging. If you want to sit in the suite, come up with $10,000. If you dont have it, sit down there with Fireman Ed. If you dont have $1200 for a GTX690, get the sand out of your vagina and go buy a GTX560Ti for $250.

Or just wait a month or two for prices to most likely come down as availability picks up and the die hards already have their cards. You want to be the new kid on the block with the fanciest toy you pay the early adopter price.

You can't price gouge on luxury items, they will sell for whatever market forces dictate they sell for. Hell, newegg probably could have gone up even more on the price and still cleared the inventory. The hurricane and petroleum analogies are ridiculous.

Or drop 2000 clams on one on ebay like the other couple hundred super rich spoiled fuckwits the capitalist exploiters are about to totally buttfuck.

This is why I haven't used Newegg in years. I'm thinking of grabbing one, but it will be from Amazon, when they get them in stock.

Ehh....not sure who chose to price at $1200, Newegg or EVGA, but someone is fail here. Taking further advantage of the fact that these are limited is pretty low.

To each their own I guess. I love Newegg and its the only place I buy from.

WTF, Ferrari's are $300,000. That's fucking ridiculous and price gouging!!! MSRP is $250,000.

I'm never buying from Ferrari again! Now lets look at this Bently....oh wtf....

Seems like you are completely missing the concept of "price gouging"...

$1000 MSRP -> $1200 price = price gouging.

EDIT: And I see you ninja-edited your post. In any case, it's rare that cars are over MSRP anyway so it seems like a failed analogy by any metric.

I think you missed the point. No one is going to die without a 690. Someone will die without water.

People bitch and complain about communism and socialism but when capitalism doesn't work for them, they bitch about that. Is this not America???

Apparently people forgot that when the 680s came out, Newegg was one of the very few places that actually sold at MSRP. Go figure.

I actually edited during your response. And maybe you should check prices on new Ferrari's...those cars actually do sell over MSRP, quite common. How about there are some rare cases that videocards sell over MSRP. Maybe a top shelf card like a 690?

The only idiot is someone who would pay 200$ more for no apparent good reason. I bet the newegg execs are truly laughing right now though, its cool.

Newegg is NOT forcing them, it's their choice

Live and let live

Why do people whine?!?! If it were your company an you understand supply an demand

you would be stupid not to? If your not willing to pay to play then go elsewhere don't whine

cause you are not being catered to.

they're in the business of making money.. not doing people favors... a 20% markup on a hot ticket item like this is almost expected.. I am not saying I like it but as the others have said, supply and demand. now the guy on ebay asking over double is outta hand.. I hope no one gave that prick 2k for one of those.

edit: oye there are a bunch on ebay now ranging from 1999 to 2500.. can you say "cash rape"?

That is not price gouging. Some douche nozzle selling chainsaws for $500 a piece and $10 for a bottle of Aquafina right after Hurricane Katrina is price gouging. Selling a $250,000 Ferrari for $300,000 is not.

Really depends on what you consider "unreasonable" or "unfair" prices, but yeah, I'll give you that. Though it doesn't HAVE to be a necessity to be considered price gouging.

Yes it does have to be a necessity. You cannot price gouge on items that are not consumer staples. Selling at a market clearing price on luxury items does not even begin to meet the definition of price gouging.

No it does not, look it up.

The very definition is selling at a price that is considered unreasonable or unfair.

The only other cards I've seen at this price range (outside of workstation cards) were the 5970 special editions for the Sapphire Toxic 4GB and the Ares 5870x2. At least the Ares came with a mouse and newegg threw in a free Asus motherboard of your choice.

Selling luxury items at or under market clearing prices is not unfair.
This. No one is forced to buy or use this product.

That's a bullshit public definition that leaves out too much rational thinking and injects too much emotional thinking. Anyway I completely agree with devman. The term is so overused on non necessity products. I even saw someone say that the government should do something about this over in the 680 availability thread. :p

What a hilarious and absurd argument. HOW CAN IT BE FACTUALLY PRICE GOUGING WHEN THE LUXURY NON-NECESSITY PRICE IS SET PURELY BASED ON WHAT THE MARKET WILL PAY FOR IT? FFS are auctions of rare items price gouging? THEY'RE WELL ABOVE MSRP!

MSRP = Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price

Notice that word "suggested"? It means flexible. If the "Retailer" decides to not take the "Manufacturer's" suggestion about the "Price", that's entirely up to them. Selling items at MSRP is not a law. Your sensibilities are just lucky Newegg didn't charge what the item is actually worth today, Thursday, May the 3rd 2012. Because it's not 1200 dollars.

Actually, I was able to get an order in this morning at EVGA for the "signature" model for $1050. :)

At least there I'm getting a [Strike=Option]reacharound[/s] t-shirt while getting screwed.

I think the point people are trying to make is that newegg is pissing off lots of loyal customers but charging 20% over msrp on a hot new product. Is it worth making a few grand extra now to lose customers forever? The car comparison was actually a good one but to a lesser extreme look at a BMW M3 which has always been a hot car that is hard to get especially when the new ones launch. Now most dealers will try to either get over msrp or make you buy a fully loaded one! But good dealers know that sticking to the msrp will keep that customer coming back in the future and stay loyal to you, dealers who always try to get a few extra bucks over msrp get a bad reputation. Same will happen here with newegg if they start marking up every new hot item over msrp people won't even look at their site.

Time for a new pc hardware store to open, what ever happened to zipzoomfly?

No opinion either way on this but I have been happy with the prices and service of buy.com.

Well, Newegg. I can absolutely promise you I will not order at least my next $5,000+ dollars with you. I hate that kind of ripoff mentality. They are already getting profit margins off 20 cards and who cares if it's not enough. It's still a few thousand dollars in profit. This just turns your customers away and I really do wonder if in the end, they lose money pulling these kind of stunts by losing loyal customers.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel. I understand economics, and I understand that when newegg has only 10 cards or so they can charge what they want. However, as a consumer this definitely doesn't make me happy and less enthusiastic about purchasing from newegg. This kind of stint makes me LESS loyal of a customer, and I have ordered over 10k$ worth of goods from newegg easily over the past couple of years. I hope their next shipment doesn't have a similar markup. Raising the price a tad, no big deal. But 200$ over MSRP? Thats a little excessive IMO. Before anyone defends the price, this is 100% my opinion as a customer. I can afford 1200$ no problem, but I get a bad taste in the mouth from a etailer that preys on customers like this...

Another thing I'll add is that I am loyal to businesses that treat me well. I've bought 3 new cars over the years from the exact same dealership, because they look out for me, dont try to rip me off, and have great service. If they ever try to rip me off on a service visit? Guess what, i'll re-evaluate where I take my business. Same deal here - I know newegg is a less personal experience, but like I said....this kind of gouging lowers my opinion of them for sure. Newegg isn't ebay. There is no need for intentional gouging.

I agree 100% with your statement. Not only will I be loyal but I'll get all my friends and family to do business with them as well. I can't stand companies that treat people poorly. I don't care if the company is big or small.

I really liked newegg and spent 4k in the last year and a half with them. I was planning on picking up the 690 from them too but when I saw that price, it actually made me kinda sad. I'll keep shopping with them I'm sure. They do have good deals from time to time.

If newegg has low prices I buy from them, otherwise I don't. I'd say I do an even 50/50 between amazon and newegg with some 1 off purchases at frozencpu and ncix. Even if they are a little higher I might still buy from them over someone else because I know they have decent customer service. Also there is shipping and convenience. That is all that factors in to a buying decision. I would never go out of my way to make a sub optimal purchase just because newegg charged over MSRP on a product I'm not interested in that also happens to be the crazy "money is no object" top of the line luxury graphics card anyway.

To many whiners in this thread, and seriously people who say they are not going to shop newegg because of this. Don't kid yourself. You'll be buying the next item you can get from them at a better deal than the other places, because that is what smart consumers do.

So you admit you would never buy a product like this anyway, and then chastise people for "whining" about it.

You're just as bad as everyone over in the Diablo 3 thread bitching about how "it'll be the best game ever, everyone who days they aren't buying it will buy it anyway".

Just like Diablo, Newegg's not the only game in town. I never said I would boycott Newegg because of this, but you're damn sure I will pay a little more if it means avoiding a retailer that rubs me the wrong way.

Seriously.

These 14 year old dreamers kill me with the it's economics 101. I think they missed the how to run a business 101 class. It's very hard to get customers, but very easy to lose them. I promise you newegg lost some big money customers with this move.

and don't worry I have mine now on order for $1017 shipped, but how is that possible isn't newegg the only place on earth to buy computer parts. MADNESS!!!!
