Deployment underway now. Let's use this time to discuss the game and expansion.
 
I'm so excited I'm twisted each of my nipples in opposite directions currently :D
 
Damn it now I am going to have to start playing again, there goes whats left of my free time. Oh shit, all of my shit is still in 0.0 and I am broke.

I know exactly how you feel. Most of my stuff is in the Providence system IIRC. Ex-LFA here...
 
I am excited to be getting a free expansion after buying various expansions for wow, lotro, an everquest throughout the years. however since I am a noob, nothing in tyrannis will affect me.

I am thinking about making another character to mess with the planetary resource gathering though, looks neat.

I'm pretty sure the game is being updated right now. I've been trying to log into both of my accounts for the past hour and I just get Incompatible version notices. On another note, if you guys really need isk badly, just spend $35 on a 60 Day GTC and sell it on the forums for 600mil isk. I did that for the first and hopefully only time this weekend so I could buy my Hulk for one character and another Drake and jump clone for the other. Beats the hell out of mining in a retriever for another month. Can't wait to play Tyrannis.

Time to get into a cheap clone, load up your pod with sandwiches and fly to empire for some boring missions my friend. Woooshhhhhhh.....

No, you don't shoot a laser at the planet. You setup your factories on the planet and then it's automatic.
 
I have an alt corp setup in 0.0 doing moon mining, so I'm pretty anxious to see what the planets there bring.

They have a stress test planned for this weekend. They set aside a small block of time and they want 300-500 ships to head to the same area so they can record the chaos and see what causes the lag. Hit up the official EVE forums for times. I was planning to go over there in a junk ship just to see how bad it is :D

as long as you got a fire extinguisher handy. as for the expansion, just in time, been inactive for about a month and getting ready to poke around soonish. Hope everyone got a long training set in your queue just in case...oh shit do I? :eek:

I had intended to stop playing entirely after getting bored with Eve, but then I found out the hard way that I forgot to remove my CC info when they hit me for another year's subscription. Tyrannis could be interesting though...

Well the server being down today was fully announced ahead of time. A few weeks back in fact.

Then again, it's taking longer than expected. But then again, they're doing an entire server move so it's very understandable that it'll take longer than expected.

As for the first incident you speak of, was that around when Tyrannis was deployed?

Still peeved that they haven't fixed the fleet lag yet.
 
I don't keep track of specific dates.

I usually don't pay for a service that randomly stops working either.

Might as well stop playing any MMO then. They all have downtimes scheduled and unscheduled and even the scheduled ones will more then likely goes pass the expected time frame given.

The month you been back the two times you've experienced downtime are during 1 a new expansion pack roll out which people are notified of in advance and is obviously expected. The second time today was also announced ahead of time downtime due to them relocating and upgrading to new servers.

I mean really? You are going to complain about getting free expansion packs where as every other MMO charges you for them and you are also going to complain when they are upgrading their hardware to make the experience better for the user as well? Also something that most other MMO's do as well.

its not really 'random' though, they let people know about this stuff well in advance. one downtime was for the free(!) expansion, another was for additional expansion fixes (forgot what day it was, but I ran into it), and this downtime is because they are moving 'everything'. to a higher performing cluster.

compare this to wow where on many servers the game runs like shit *every friggin tuesday* and would randomly dc people in my guild.

Calling the "expansion packs" free, is comical. Me, along with thousands of others, spend $15.00 a mo. to play a game that would sell for $20 in the store. In case your math isn't as sharp as your insight, that's $180.00 annually.

When I pay my bill to Verizon every month, I expect my service to work when I make a call. I'm fully aware that software and hardware needs to be replaced/fixed/upgraded. This month is obviously an exception, but what about all of the other months and near future?

Apparently Eve is notorious for having downtime, so I'm not saying anything that hasn't been said before. On second thought, this was a complete waste of time. Yawn.

Lets break it down for you.

Pick another big MMO. WoW, LOTRO, EQ2, all charge the normal $15 a month to play the game. But when one of those games has an expansion pack, guess what? You have to pay for it as well, anywhere from $40-50 on its release.

So yes, the expansion packs (number 11 now iirc btw) are free.

Can't compare an MMO to any other service but that of another MMO. I get it, you pay for a service you expect it to be available. Here is a news flash though, most all services at one point or another have downtime, and they do forewarn you as well. Few months ago, my internet was being turned off in the middle of the night for nearly a week straight while they were upgrading the lines in my area, it is part of life, sure it sucks sometimes but that is life.

I take it you are new to MMO's cause to be complaining about what you are shows you are, or you have that I'm entitled to everything attitude.

I am right there with you in that expansions *should* be free. Now go look at pretty much every other MMO from LOTRO, WoW, Everquest, Final Fantasy, AoC... They all charged money for expansions. I think Everquest really started this when they fired off *10* paid expansions in 5 years, and people were chomping at the bit to get those :confused:

This is actually one of the reasons I am playing EVE. When I dump $180 a year into a game I would think they should do me the service of providing additional content without charging.

In other EVE news, here is the Drake fit I should be rolling out this weekend for L2 missions. I don't think anything in a L2 has a chance to scratch this passive tank. The Hobgoblin IIs are most of my DPS for now. Then i am going to keep working on my skills while I keep upgrading this ship all the way to L4s:

Hahahahha, I made so much ISK off both of CCP's screwups with the market. First the reprocessing of cyno jammers, and then the mechanical parts / robotics fiasco. Glorious expansion, made me a very rich trader.

EDIT: To the guy above me, drop an LSE for an AB, itll really help. L2s/3s in a Drake are piss easy. I run l4s in a t2 fit drake and rarely have trouble.

Hrmm, if I drop 1x LSE for an AB 10MN, I can also fit 2x Ballistic Control System Is in the lows to replace the Power Diagnostic System Is. I probably planned this thing to really over tank the hell out of the L2s I am working on...

Yeah that should be enough for L2s. Most L2s only have frigs, destroyers and the occasional cruiser.

I really hope it is be enough to cover any new player mistakes on my part. I have been walking through most L2s using a salvaging Vexor with one gun and just drones. My main concern is losing the ship to a disconnect / rare spawn / other random event.

Also thanks to some H members for helping me get started with isk a couple month ago! It made my early flying days so much easier, plus I was able to buy and train the advanced learning skills which are helping me now :)

EVE is down until midday on Thursday, hope my planned skills keep training :eek:

LOL!

I can take out my 'ceptor or BC for PVP far more often than a carrier or dread :) Can't exactly do roam with a dread or carrier...
